Vehicle Detail

You are viewing a 1998 BMW 740il with 170,785 miles. The Engine, 4.4L V8, runs great, starts right up every time with no issues and has been very well maintained. Absolutely No smoking, tapping, or knocking. As you can see from the pictures, this car is in beautiful condition inside and out. The car is also loaded with almost every option you can get. It has: Dual Power seats, Power Steering wheel, Sunroof, Heated seats, Leather interior, Wood grain package, Sport shifter package, Traction Control package, Automatic rear shades, Dual climate control, 6 disc CD changer, LCD display screen, Integrated cell phone (cell phone included), BMW tool kit, BMW first aid kit, and more. The reason why I am selling it so cheap is because the car has some type of trans issue causing the car to go into "Trans FailSafe mode", which means the car puts itself into 4th gear to prevent any transmission damage. This car runs and drives fine, it just starts off slow because it is in 4th gear, but can be driven the way it is. The trans failsafe mode can happen for a number of different reasons. From a bad battery or alternator to bad speed sensors or low/dirty trans fluid. The car just started doing it one day and I didn't know why. I took it to 2 different mechanics and they both told me something different. One said it was a bad internal speed sensor, and the other guy told me it could be a bad transmission control module. I love this car and don't want to sell it, but in order for someone to fix it they said they have to do diagnostic work inside the trans to truly identify the problem. I have recently put in over $1,700 in this car with 4 new Continental tires, new BMW brakes and rotors all around, Trans fluid/ trans filter change and an oil/oil filter change with mobil 1 synthetic. At this point, they say it will cost anywhere from $900 to $1500 to fix the trans depending on what the problem is, and I cannot afford to put another significant amount of money into this car. So I am going to sell the car as-is at a discount and let someone else fix it. The Private Party value from Kelly Blue Book for this car is $6,900 and the retail value is over $9,000. I feel my asking price of $3,900 or best offer is very fair, considering the overall condition of the car. I will entertain all serious offers, but know that I am not going to give this car away for pennies. Other than the trans issue, this car is in great condition mechanically. The engine runs great, brakes are new, tires are new, suspension is good, exhaust is good, and all of the electronic functions inside and out (lights, sunroof, power seats, heated seats, etc) work as they should. The only two issues are the brake light is on and the check engine light is on. When the car was in the shop for the transmission, I had them run the diagnostics and they said the brake light is on because the brake pad sensor was never changed when the brakes and rotors were changed. So the car thinks the brakes are low, which triggers the light. The sensor is $12 and can easily be replaced. The check engine light is on because the car needs a new thermostat, which costs about $50. The car does not overheat at all, needle stays right in the middle. The mechanic said when the thermostats on BMWs go bad, they are designed to get stuck in the open position so the car won't overheat. These are the only mechanical issues with this car and can be fixed very cheap. Aesthtically, this car is beautiful. As you can see from the pictures, this car has been very well maintained, no accidents and has been garage kept since I have owned it. For having 170k miles and being 12 years old, this car looks new. The interior is beautiful with all the functions working properly. The exterior is great condition. The paint is beautiful and the body is straight as an arrow. This car has no rust, only one small ding the size of a nickel on the drivers' side front fender, and a few normal surface scratches from being 12 years old. Other than that, the car is really clean. I have tried to be as detailed as possible about the condition of the car. My feedback is 100% positive, so feel confident that what you read and see is accurate. My car is being sold AS-IS with a clear title. If you have any further questions please feel free to message me. Thank you for looking.
