Vehicle Detail

NO RESERVE! I am regrettably parting with my final-year first generation 1982 Honda Prelude in outstanding condition. It spent the first twenty-seven years of its life with the same owner garaged in Washington state and now resides in sunny Georgia. It has a 5-Speed manual transmission with a 1.8L (1751cc) CVCC engine. I am the third owner of the car; the second had the car for about a year and I have owned it since January. The original owner bought the car new at Lynnwood Honda outside Seattle. He kept this car up meticulously, and garaged it always. Now that I mention it -- all THREE owners have always garaged this car. Twenty years ago, I had a Prelude this same year, color, interior, etc. My wife and I had our first date in that car. When I found this one, I had to have it for nostalgia's sake. I even located an identical set of vintage American Racing mesh wheels like the ones I had on my old car and installed them, along with brand new tires (less than 500 miles!) Sadly, reality has set in -- we've got two kids in car seats, a mortgage and a minivan. There's just no room in our lives for lots of toys. We just recently sold our '69 Camaro as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITION This description will hopefully be as informative as possible, total honesty is my policy and I feel that’s the least I can do since most bidders will not have the chance to see this car in person. Everything listed below has been photographed in detail and can be seen at the bottom of this page. I prefer to sell cars how I’d like them sold to me. BODY&PAINT The unfaded original Paisley Red Metallic paint is in very good condition, although not without its flaws. The car has been peppered with a few nicks and door dings, as to be expected with a used car, especially one of this vintage. Overall the paint remains vibrant and still sparkles in the sun. I guess all those years indoors, or in gloomy Washington, kept the fading away. The body is very straight, except for two areas. The first and most glaring is damage suffered by what looks like minor parking block taps by the front air-dam/spoiler. Also there is the slightest bit of surface rust and a small dent around the trunk lock. The floors, rockers, trunk, etc are completely dry and rust-free. DRIVETRAIN The car drives great and is actually peppy. (72hp in a 2100lbs. car isn't all that bad.) The hydraulic clutch is very snappy and the transmission shifts great into all gears. The throw is fairly lengthy, but the linkage is tight and crisp. Sporty! I have used the car as a third vehicle and driven it to work and back regularly, making 30 mpg in the process! BRAKES & TIRES The tires are brand-new Barum Bravuris (made by Continental) and the brakes are new as well. The spare-tire is in great shape, original to the car and has never been used. The jack appears to have never been removed from its mount. The car stops great and does not pull to the left or right. Parking brake and its dash light work fine. INTERIOR I love the interior of this car, with its several shades of crimson. It is in almost mint condition, with a few mostly minor exceptions. The driver's seat has separated at the seam right under where your left thigh/butt cheek go. The piping on the driver's headrest has frayed slightly. And the driver's floor mat shows wear. All four original factory floormats are included. There's not a crack in the dash, and overall it looks almost new inside. ELECTRONICS All gauges work properly. All interior lights work. All dash lights function, including the glove box. All headlights, high beams, turn signals, brake lights, running lights, hazards, and reverse lights work properly. Trunk light works. Wipers are in great shape, and the washer fluid squirts just fine. Rear defroster works. There's even a cool little diagram of the car on the dash that monitors the trunk and doors being open and the brake lights, and that works great too! All four (!) horn buttons work. The moon roof opens and closes perfectly and does not leak under the most torrential of rain. This car is watertight. The stereo is an aftermarket CD player and it functions just fine. CLIMATE CONTROL The heat works great, as does the defroster. AC was a dealer-installed option back then, and being a Seattle car, this one did not have it installed when new. ALSO INCLUDED The winning bidder will also receive a Honda factory service manual, a Haynes repair manual, all original drivers manuals, warranty cards, and dealer folder. There is also a box included with a supply of replacement parts (timing belt, water pump, brake pads, brake shoes, etc.) Also, I have all four original steel wheels and center caps which have excellent tires mounted on them, should someone wish to return the car to stock. I have a clear title in my name for the car, and it is currently registered in the state of Georgia with Hobby/Antique license plates and fully insured. Below you’ll find several thumbnailed Pictures, please click on them to see a high resolution version for your scrutiny. DISCLAIMER This car is 28 years old and I offer no warranties or guarantees. It is strictly sold as-is. I have done my best to describe the car and taken many, many Pictures. If you have a question, it is your responsibility to ask it BEFORE bidding. Clear title in hand. Best of luck, this is one of the nicest first-gen Preludes out there!
