Vehicle Detail

1972 Mercedes Benz 280SE 4.5 59,900 Original Miles. Bought new in Germany by service member. Same family for over 36 years! Great Patina and thrill to drive. V-8 Gas Powered. Original fuel injection, disk brakes, independent rear end, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, wood trim, etc. THE GOOD: NO RUST! Very clean all around. Car spent majority of it's life in Arizona so the body is all there and NO RUST! A/C Works well and blows cold! All new exhaust from the collectors back. Recent tune up (plugs, rotor, air filter, oil filter, fuel filters (2 in-line and tank), fuel pump, etc.) New tires (500 miles ago) Original First Aid Kit, Tool kit, service manuals, maintenance manuals and receipts of some of the work included! Hard to find spare parts: ECU (2 working units... The things you acquire troubleshooting old MB's), Ignition Control Unit, Coil, fuses, 5 prong relays, 4 prong relays, etc. I've basically built up over the years a must have box of replacement parts for an almost 40 year old car. Most of these are of huge importance when troubleshooting. THE BAD: Being in Arizona, the paint is presentable but not perfect. No outrageous sun damage but it is tired to say the least. I have not wet sanded or tried to bring back any of the shine. Also, it sat for some time (good to keep the mileage down but it was a labor of love to get the old gal running). Being a rather early fuel injection vehicle with a rather complex engine control module (Think Apple IIe) it was tedious efforts to drain the fuel system, clean the tank, replace the fuel pump, all rubber injection hoses and clamps, clean the 8 injectors, drain and flush the radiator, new water pump, thermostat and gaskets, belts, troubleshoot all relays, fuses, etc to get her running well. Car runs strong and transmission is tight with no slop. Driver's side power window is tired. The window has power just needs a little hand assist to get all the way up. Other 3 windows function normally. Heater was disconnected while in Arizona. I'm not sure how this "chicken or egg" scenario worked out, but the heater levers are also disintegrated and no longer functional (very common problem with a couple of well documented fixes on MB forums). With that being said, I want to believe the heater core is solid but I have not bothered with it. I'm pretty sure the car has not strayed more than a couple miles north of I-10 in it's life so the heater was not needed. I would like to say it is a simple fix but with these heating systems, it is nothing short of blasphemy to state as such. Interior is complete. Wood trim is all present but some slight warping on the front dash wood trim piece. NO cracks in the dash itself. No rips in the upholstery ( And yes, it took awhile for the brown Tex/Mex interior to grow on me). Carpet is there but the driver side floor mat is in need of replacement. The padding is serviceable and I've kept my eye open for OEM replacements with no luck and have priced entire aftermarket kits then decided I enjoyed the originality of the current carpet. Power Antenna works great in manual mode (That is, the old fashion way of pulling it up before driving and storing it when parked). Original Becker Mexico radio with factory installed cassette player in the glove box. Stereo works well as do the treble/bass/fade functions. Electrical Gremlins: Interior lights, headlights, brights, fog lights, tail lights, blinkers, brake lights, etc all work! The only light that is currently not working it the instrument cluster light. Please email me for additional pictures and I welcome those interested to call or stop by for a test drive if feasible. I have orders to Japan and the government will only store 1 vehicle (And you guessed it... the wife's Volvo). I can be reached via email or by cell phone at 443-414-7521. I'm honest and don;t believe in long drawn out disclaimers about payment this or shipping that. If you like the car, please bid. If you come to get the car and it isn't what you expected, by all means walk away. I'm not one to cry about listing fees or what not. I just want to see this classic MB find a good home. Thanks for looking!
