Vehicle Detail
Offered without reserve is my 1973 BMW 2002tii. This is a Verona Red car with tobacco interior. Options and upgrades include: A Getrag 5-speed manual transmission, A factory sunroof that works perfectly A set of 5 factory 13" alloy wheels, 4 with proper center caps Front and rear bumper over-riders An Anza muffler and tailpipes An Alpine AM/FM CD radio This car is a factory USA-delivered true tii. It came from the factory with Verona Red paint and a tobacco interior. It has spent most of it's life in California (I have the original blue & yellow California license plates & they will go with the car) and southwest Colorado. The car was painted about 10-15 years ago. Although it still shines up well, it is beginning to show it's age. You could easily repaint the car to show-quality standards, or enjoy the car as it is. It still gets plenty of admiring glances and complements. Anyone who has studied these cars knows that they are prone to rust. This car has two dime-size areas of paint bubbling just in front of the windshield gasket and a quarter-size area of paint bubbling at the very bottom of the front quarter panel on the driver's side. These were present when I purchased the car two years ago & haven't gotten worse. The fact that the paint is older & that you could see the rust without it being covered up by a fresh coat of paint was a positive thing for me (what you see is what you get). The shock towers both front and rear are solid & rust-free. Mechanically, the car is strong. I've had about $3,500 worth of mechanical work done to the car in the last two years and have not ignored any needs my mechanic has suggested. Mechanical work has included an engine seal, brakes, muffler, belts & hoses, the transmission swap, tuning, adjusting, etc. Original miles are unknown, but I would estimate them to be around 135,000. It is reliable and always starts. It does not over-heat, and it runs strong (even at 9,000 ft above sea level). It puffs a little smoke when you lift the gas pedal on a long downhill stretch (valve guides & seals I'm told)...but not bad enough to fix in the opinion of my mechanic. Known issues include the slight smoking (discussed above), a tear in the headliner at one corner of the sunroof (could probably be glued if you knew what you were doing), a crack in the dash where the instrument pod meets the flat aprt of the dash, and the clock doesn't work. The upholstery is original and the carpet is a newer replacement. The car will come with the following extra parts: A set of four original tii steel wheels & hubcaps, all in excellent condition A spare tii engine block A spare original 4-speed transmission The original Blaupunkt Radio All in all, this is a strong-running west-coast or Colorado car that has been well-maintained and kept in it's original configuration. If you are looking for a really nice USA-delivered, original color true tii, this is a great car. It can be driven and enjoyed now in the best of company or easily restored to perfection if that is the direction you choose. The car is currently licensed in my name with a Colorado title. A $500 deposit is due within 24-hours of auction end. The balance of the purchase price is due within 7-days of auction end.
