Vehicle Detail
This is a rare 1974 Pontiac GTO that's been roughly 95% restored. Car has a 1971 Pontiac 455 engine that's was bored 20 over, roughly 20k ago. Engine was then cleaned, repainted correct Pontiac blue, and had a new water pump installed, timing chain replaced and new gaskets installed, Moroso valve covers and gaskets, Edelbrock 4bbl Performer aluminium intake and Holley 650 carb installed, oil pan gasket and rear main bearing oil seals replaced, all new belts and hoses, new radiator, new fuel pump and lines, stock fuel tank was boiled and cleaned. GTO specific air cleaner with scoop is fully functional- flapper door opens and closes as designed. Engine runs very strong, has new 2 1/4 dual exhaust, new Heddmann long tube headders and sounds great. Transmission is a turbo 400, which was also rebuilt at the same time as the engine. It too had new seals and gaskets replaced before installing in the car. The cooler line from transmission to radiator intermittantly has a small drip, and will leave a dime size spot on the floor at times. The steel lines are new, seal may have been squished out when installed? The interior has been completely restored to stock original. Brand new carpet, headlining, dashpad, seats reupholstered professionally with new factory upholstry from Ames Perormance. Door panels and interior trim were all cleaned, and re-dyed to original black color. New cd player, 5" speakers mounted in factory dash location, 6x9's in new rear package tray. GTO specific center hump console and new guages in stock location. New wiper and blower motors installed. All electrical is in good working order-less turn signals. Turn signals are intermittant, traced short to possible turn signal cam in column. Included is an additional complete column for parts to repair signals. Suspension was completely rebuilt, has new coil springs in front, new leaf springs in rear, new Monroe shocks all the way around. Brakes were completely replaced, new master cylinder, new shoes, hardware, and drums front and rear. Front wheel bearings were replaced with new, brake hoses were replaced with new. Rear axle was rebuilt with Richmond 3:73 gears, Moser 28 spline axles, all new seals, inner and outer axle bearings replaced, new pinion bearings and seals with gear kit. Steering is tight, car handles very well. The body was completely restored, new quarter panels were professionally installed on both sides, floors only required 2 small patches, body was taken to bare metal, sealed, and sprayed in 2005 Mopar green. White pearl stripes were layed out in a 'Yenko-eske' design. Undercarriage was sprayed with rustproofing front to rear, inner trunk was also sealed and coated. Interior floors were sealed and coated prior to interior installation. Front bumper was replaced with original re-chromed unit. I will need to have the front bumper filler endcaps replaced, as they were lost at some point durint the restoration. All exterior trim was cleaned and reinstalled- it is missing the Pontiac emblem on the trunk. I was able to locate and add the rare chrome trim along the doorglass frames and rear qtr window frames. All rubber weatherstripping was replaced with new from Ames Performnce. The car is fun to drive, and turns alot of heads. Selling the car only to pay off other bills and projects. I am located within 15 minutes of Cedar Rapids area and would welcome anyone who would like to come and see the car in person. I have tried to describe the car as best as possible- It's a really nice build, however it was built to drive and enjoy, it's not a Sema car! It has a few imperfections, rock chips, etc. Please feel free to ask any and all questions prior to bidding. Sold as is, $500 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hrs of end of auction. Winning bidder must also contact me within that same timeframe to discuss pick-up of car. Please do not bid if you do not intend on following through per E-bay rules. Any bidders with 0 feedback will be cancelled unless approved by me first. Thanks for looking, and good luck bidding!! On Apr-26-10 at 14:42:15 PDT, seller added the following information: To avoid confusion- The engine was bored out and rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago. The laundry list of all new parts, seals, gaskets, etc, were all done just before being installed in this car, so all the new parts are less than a year old (don't have 20,000 miles on them!). The motor was 'freshened up' if you will. It also got a new cap, rotor, wire set, and plugs at that time. The front coil springs were just replaced 2 weeks ago with new as well, and the car hasn't had alot of time to settle yet. That's why it looks a little high in the front. The stock coil springs were sagging with the weight of the new motor and gave the car too much rake. It looked cool, but wasn't practical with Iowa's road conditions! Please feel free to ask any other questions, and I'll answer them as honestly as possible. Thanks for looking! On Apr-28-10 at 06:18:37 PDT, seller added the following information: I neglected to mention- During the restoration of this car, I have accumulated a huge pile of additional parts from doner cars. Tons of extra chrome, glass, interior trim, exterior trim, another trunk lid, dash pieces, taillights, headlight buckets, door panels, headliner trim, sun visors, wiring harnesses and electrical switches, etc. I also have a second dash cluster that could be installed, as the current speedometer is erradic at times. Everything is included with the winning bid of this car. I have also lowered the reserve, as apparently home repairs are more important than enjoying the car. (So she says, right?)
