Up for sale is this original 1989 Piaggio Ape 50 elestart I imported directly from Italy a few years ago with proper paperwork. She's straight and ready to work. It is a 30 year old workhorse with original paint that has it's patina from 3 decades of riding around tiny Italian roads. It looks great as-is or could give it a freshen-up paint job. The engine has been kitted recently with a new Polini 102cc with performance clutch, 19.19 carburetor, polini exhaust and a 16-tooth pinasco pinion gear that adds 5mph to the top speed. It is an electric start model with a 4 speed manual transmission with reverse. It also has new Michelin tires, control cables etc. All the lights, horn and windshield wiper work and is equipped with a spare and original jack. I've been riding it around Miami with no issues, is really zippy and fun to drive. I have both 501s and 50s and can tell you the 50s are much more practical for daily use. They're lighter, smaller, quicker (with the 102cc kit) and parts are far easier and cheaper to get. Many of the consumables can be found in the USA as they share many with the 125 primavera vespa. It is titled and registered as it was in Italy originally, i.e. as a 50cc scooter. This is another benefit of the ape 50 compared to the 501, most states don't require a motorcycle endorsement to drive it.
