Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a 1957 Ariel Square Four, Mk II 1000cc 4-cylinder. The “Square 4” is an iconic motorcycle, often called the “Rolls Royce of motorcycles”. One of rarest, most collectable motorcycles in the world. There were only 3,828 Mark II’s built between 1953-’58. My Dad bought this matching numbers Ariel in 1970 in Parkersburg, WV. He collected new parts over the years and we restored it in the mid-1990’s. It is a very complete example. Dad was friends with SQ4 expert John Havel who gave advice and help over the years. The engine was completely gone through. It was in great condition to start with, so it only needed new rings, bearings and a valve job. The oil sludge trap was properly cleaned. I was a professional bodyman and painted the frame with single stage paint the bodywork was painted with base coat/clearcoat, which was sanded and buffed. The bike won numerous trophy’s and awards at shows. It was ridden very little. The bike rode perfect and the Square 4’s have a beautiful sound like no other. As the original speedometer was not functioning, Dad set the replacement to zero and the bike has less than 100 miles on it. Dad moved out of state and the bike was stored indoors for the last 20 years. When he fell into ill health the bike just sat. It is still in overall good condition. The paint is very good overall but has minor scuffs and scratches. The chrome has picked up some surface rust. Most is still presentable. The chrome in the plunger suspension was redone and is VG. Places of note are the mufflers and the wheels. The front is VG except one area about 3” long and rear wheel has some minor surface rust. The mufflers could use replacement. The bike has not been started since in storage. It will be sold as is, with no warranties or guarantees. Gas tank and carburetor were drained, but both should be cleaned. Should start with normal tinkering. Bid with confidence. I am giving a 100% honest and accurate description of this classic motorcycle. Will come with two brand new Avon Speedmaster tires.
