Vehicle Detail
1985 MERKUR XR4Ti Low Mileage 1985 XR4Ti 5spd. New head gasket, intake gaskets, valve cover gasket, timing belt, oil change + filter, and coolant flush completed a few weeks ago. Gasket went between #2 and #3 cylinders (compression loss only, no coolant or oil contamination).I've put almost 50 miles on the new gasket and the car is running great. Cylinder head came back from the shop with no cracks found. Compression is now 140-145 across all 4 cylinders. Premium Goodyear gatorback timing belt was installed. Timing belt tensioner seemed OK so I didn't bother replacing it. Car sat for a year or two with the head gasket issue and was constantly on the back burner to be "next" to get worked on...and it finally has. People sometimes ask "Why are you selling this car?"Answer: It was purchased with the headgasket issue with the intention of fixing it and selling it. Brand new K&N air filter just installed earlier today, replacing the aging autozone filter that was there. 1985 XR4Ti 5spd - YouTube Video will open in a new window Using the eBay App? Paste link into a browser window: [isdntekvideo] Its an 85 so the original dash was cracked badly so I replaced the dash with a nice used one. I almost installed the factory clock back in the dash during the swap since only some of the aftermarket gauges are working, but I decided to leave them since the temp gauge and the oil pressure gauge were working and those are nice to have.Aftermarket CD player does not work and there is quite a bit of extra wiring from a (removed) big stereo system that still remains, so the CD player may work once the wiring is straightened out/removed/etc. There is "extra" wiring from the battery to the trunk with a few stops inbetween. Its a used 33 year old car and is far from perfect. Factory power antenna does not work. A/C has been removed from this car. A couple of small paint chips have turned into small surface rust spots. One on the hood and one on the passenger side - both shown in the video. Steering rack boots are torn and both in need of replacement. The front grille has been replaced / repainted. Bi wing spoiler was replaced at some point and time from a blue car and some of that blue paint is showing through the black (see video). This bi wing spoiler is unique to the first year 1985 models was only available for one year. in 1986 a 3rd brake light was added.Cloth seats have some stains/tears but are in good condition - this cloth interior is unique to the first year 1985 models was only available for one year. Unfortunately someone glued the rear view mirror on resulting in a small crack. (It should have been adhered with a small 3M double sided high adhesive square.)The rear section of the exhaust is the Borla stainless system that Rapido used to carry. The front section of the exhaust is mostly stock. Original owner added HID ballasts and bulbs to the stock headlights to improve light output and they are the brightest stock plastic headlights I have seen on an XR4Ti. The hydraulic hood lifts are a nice touch too - no hood prop rod in the way when you are working.**UPDATE 6-23-18**Added a picture of the spare tire well since a couple people have asked.Updated the engine bay picture. The (stock) plastic coolant tank shown in the video had some small cracks in it and already had a repair done at the neck where the cap is - the tank needed replaced ASAP. The first sample of our new aluminum coolant tanks was sitting right here just waiting for a car to go on...so on it went. The car now has a brand new aluminum coolant tank installed as shown in the picture. The old plastic one in the video is long gone LOW OPENING BID AND NO RESERVE! Want an XR4Ti but prefer an automatic? Once this space is open I'll begin working on the next one (1989 XR4Ti automatic). Feel free to inquire for more details.
