Hello!!I am very sad to be posting this ad but the time has come for me and my roundie to part ways. It is a 1968 BMW 1600-2 born on March 1st 1968. He was delivered to Hoffman Motor Co. in NYC on 3/27/1968. The BMW's original color was Bristol (code 058). I have owned the BMW for over 4.5 years and I purchased the car locally from the 2nd owner. The car has had an older restoration by the 1st owner. He has been re-sprayed a metallic silver/grey color. Paint is great and still shines on all sides of the car except for the roof, trunk and hood where you can see some fading. (Mostly on the roof & trunk). That doesn't bother me because the patina goes great with the color of the car. The belt line trim is all there but does have dings. I've seen complete new sets selling for around $1000. The odometer shows approx. 37K miles and the odometer and speedometer still work. Brakes where all redone by the previous owner and the master cylinder was replaced also. I was told the clutch was replaced by the original owner and I believe it because the clutch is nice and smooth and grabs right away. The engine bay will need some detailing (see pictures) but I have left it untouched just like the two previous owners did. The carburetor was rebuilt by the previous owner and it does have a manual choke. Oil changed every May and air filter has been changed. The interior is in great shape except of course for the cracked dash. The original Blaupunkt radio still works and the middle speaker is original. All seat belts are there and are stamped 1968. Headliner has no holes but the dome light is missing. A replacement can be purchased for around $50. A new carpet was installed by the original owner. Trunk area is all original including the spare tire which is stamped 1967. The only minor rust hole this car has is the one typically found in the spare tire well. Nothing major and this is a typical rust area on roundie's. Shock towers are solid and original. The rear bumper has a big ding in it but there is no body damage behind it. I pulled the bumper to make sure. I got the car like that and it never bothered me but a new center bumper piece can be purchased from Roger's Tii for approx. $350. Glass is all original and front windshield is showing some delamination at the bottom corners. Front and rear windshield gaskets where replaced but the middle chrome lock molding wasn't installed. I have 2 new rolls of the chrome lock molding that I will include in the sale. The drivers side view mirror is also original but pitted. I believe it is called a Swan Neck mirror. Both rain gutter moldings are missing but used or new gutters can be purchased for approx. $75-$100 each.. The wheels aren't my favorite. They came with the car. All center caps are there. I am including OEM steel wheels with brand new tires. They are all stamped 11/70. I have to check on the brand of tire and the size. I am also including a nice set of OEM hubcaps. Finally, this is a matching numbers car and the engine still runs great and very strong. The VIN number is 1563747. I will try and upload a video of the car cruising at 60 mph on the highway with no vibrations at all. The suspension and exhaust system are original to the car. Car rides smooth with no rattles or vibration but I would refresh the suspension if I where keeping the car. Well folks, I can go on and on about my roundie and I probably forgot some stuff. All factory smog equipment is operational and still intact. 5) I have the original antenna mast. I take it off when I put the car cover on. I had a couple of more questions since yesterday which I have answered. I wanted to pass along some additional information about my BMW. 1) All factory stickers under the hood are all original and not reproductions. 2) The clear plastic cover for the fuse box is still there and in great shape. 3) Front rubber control arm bushings look like they where replaced by previous owner because they look new and not dried out or cracked. 4) Rear CV axle boots are in great shape and there are no tears or cuts in them. 5) Rear differential mount looks very solid and in great shape. 6) When the brake system was re-done, the master cylinder was replaced and the front rubber brake lines where replaced also. The emergency brake works perfectly. Car stops on a dime. 7) Both doors close perfectly with no sagging at all. All body seams and gaps are near perfect for a 50 year old BMW. 8) Front valance or chin spoiler is solid with some minor traces of surface rust. 9) I do have an email from BMW in Munich verifying the original color and production date.
