Vehicle Detail
Just like its predecessor, the 1972 Suzuki TM-250J Champion, the 1973 Suzuki TM-250K Champion was nick named the “Champion” because of Joel Robert who rode his Suzuki to a 250 MX world championship 3 years in a row (1970-1972). The big changes for ’73; The tank badges on the ’72 were replaced with stickers along with an updated clutch. I bought this from the original owner, who insists this is the original tank. He was in his 80’s and was very firm that the tank is the original as purchased. Of course 1973 TM’S were stickered, but maybe it was a very early model, the tank was damaged and changed at the dealer, who knows, so…..take that for what it is. He mentioned that the motor and the pipe were built by the company that did the Suzuki Team bikes. I removed the cylinder and sure enough there is some very sophisticated porting done. I took it to a local machine shop and the machinist commented on the porting was something you’d see on a works bike. I dropped in a new Wiesco piston, rings, base and head gaskets, and air filter. The compression is great, bike rolls freely, brakes work, and it starts easily when the carburetor cooperates, rims are true, what looks like 1970’s tires are on the rims and look good. But if your intent is to fix up to race, you will need new tires. Issues, the carburetor is tired and should be rebuilt or replaced, small oil leak on the lower center case. Usual cosmetic issues associated with a 45 year old, unrestored motocross bike. These are getting harder to find and this one has a lot of original parts, some repop parts, and some race parts. NO RESERVE. 1973 Suzuki TM-250K Champion Specs Aluminum Alloy Rims, 21″ Front Wheel, 5-Way Adjustable Rear Shocks, Length of 83.9″ Width of 34.3″, Wheel Base of 55.9″, Ground Clearance of 8.1″,Weight 220 lbs. 246cc Air Cooled Engine, Pointless Electronic Ignition System, Bore and Stroke of 2.76″ × 2.52″ Produced 28hp at 7000 RPM, 5 Speed Transmission, 7.1″ of Front Fork Travel Fuel Tank Capacity of 2.4 Gallons, Oil Tank Capacity of 1.3 Pints
