Vehicle Detail
2000 Mercedes SLK230 Hard Top Convertible. Might consider editing the listing for a Buy Now option for very serious bidder to help avoid my next garage payment. $650 if you ship this week. I'm changing to 500 deposit payment in 24 hours to weed out the flakes. SERIOUS ONLY. PLEASE do not inquire about the car unless you can take possession of it by February 25th. Be local or ready to ship and please read the listing. Everything is there. I had this posting up last month and one buyer flaked from Craigslist and then TWO separate auction bidders flaked on eBay. It sold on ebay for $950 in the first, week-long listing; sold for less in the rushed, re-listing. SERIOUS buyers only, PLEASE. I know it's cheap for a Mercedes. But my preferred audience is not a first timer. This needs a very serious buyer or even a pro- or part-only buyer that can handle fixing/parting AND SHIPPING if required, and anything else as part of a normal car transaction. Parts are worth over $1000 easily but I know there is an 'in-between' or non- full-time enthusiast that might like the car for fix-up. YES, the car runs/drives but NO, it is not currently legal given broken plastic lights and driver's front right headlamp. I wouldn't feel safe suggesting you drive it more than local miles before a good look-over and clean up of any grill fragments. No fly-in drive home bidders please! I can have it shipped for $650 across the U.S. so more local shipping shouldn't be to much for you to deal with. I won't deal with any shipping aspects other than providing contact for one outfit I've used in the past a couple times (and meeting the truck at my location for pickup). I drive the car around the blocks for about a mile every few days to keep it lubed up. *Clean title.*I have no reason to believe the convertible mechanism has any issues but I haven't tried to put it down since the hit in the back. The trunk opens and is clear/free all the way up but I don't know enough about the overall mechanism to understand what could create an issue if I tried to run the full convertible operation but I believe the mechanism/roof itself is in good working order. *The trunk popped open fairly easily using the lock button but of course, won't close properly. It does stay down and in place. (My previous ad indicated I might need to drill the (otherwise unusable trunk) and crow it open to retrieve contents of my trunk but that was not necessary, if that matters. *Previous listing mentioned a low tire. It was a non-issue air-fill needed.*The only accident I know anything about is the hit/run while the car was parked. I seem to remember a minor fender bender from the previous owner on a Carfax 4+ years ago but you can research that. There was never mechanical issues from an accident to my knowledge and definitely not under my care. Original listing: Recently awesome daily driver was an auto-victim of a hit and run while parked. Brand new BMW was smashed into rear of my Mercedes which pushed car into a truck trailer hitch (that parked way too close to me!). Mercy seems to have zero mechanical fault from the incident aside from right front headlamp is out. Front and read body damage pictured. Runs and drives perfectly well but body damage is significant enough that I can't deal with it and had already decided new sales job would have to equate to a new car (need storage room and be able to take high city miles at low cost--bought a hybrid). Alignment is dead-on straight.Love this car and would have kept as a 3 season fun ride with plans to repair original Chicago-rust patchwork on drivers door and in other spots, also pictured. More minor corrosion in a few places, as expected. Overall the car (was) very straight. I also have matching factory interior rubberized paint to repair the scratching and rubbing-off of the Mercedes paint, so often a complaint and issue for owners (from new). A great youtube video shows how to easily make interior look like new by dabbing with a sponge and the factory matching paint I have. High mileage (mostly all highway for that matter from the previous owner 2 hour daily commute) are nothing to this car and I believe this would go to 500K easily (220k now). Seats and other things in good order for a car this age. Slight wear on driver seat 'flange' front entering/exiting. Car headliner and retractable top in great condition. Couple dinky issues like the change receptacle doesn't hinge open. I use the pop-out cup holder for that anyway. Car was always garaged in my care for last 3 years but as mentioned, there is old, non-threatening rust in areas. Underneath car and chassis in great shape. Car is very tight around turns as you expect from SLK. Very special wheels on car and overall gets a ton of looks and compliments even with older paint (which is decent overall but my pics and winter dust don't do it justice). Upcoming work mechanically might only be shocks and it's just slightly 'creakier' going slow over bumps since I fist owned it. Exhaust would be worth a look but muffler seems great still. It is overall less quiet right now but I think it's also given the hood separation from the front impact. The engine sound just travels out of the engine compartment more easily. It has a really good idle sound and there is a nicely tuned exhaust note. Rearview mirror has the classic auto-dimming 'oil leak'. So that dimming function doesn't work but it was this way when I bought it and I got used to it. I did find a place in Michigan that rebuilds the mirrors to brand-new condition for about $95. There is appropriate fit replacement glass on the driver side mirror which is a non-issue but listing for full-disclosure if you expected a dimming side mirror. Engine is super smooth. Transmission and brakes all great. I have always used ultra premium gasoline. There is a slight vibration when the car is in reverse and I don't know what that is but it's never effected anything and gets back to silky smooth in drive or idle especially when warm but even cold. Starts right up mechanically. Every now and then it doesn't 'catch' and someone mentioned he thinks it's the key security feature (not turning over in a fluid wrist motion). Major work done in my possession has been the serpentine belt, timing belt, brakes, rotors, new fuel pump. The battery is only 8 months old. Might possibly need tires in a few thousand but they still grip very well. Nice Sony Bluetooth CD/MP3/Aux and great Bose speakers. I have a replacement button for the convertible switch on the center console. Functions perfectly and lights up but the button was cracked. Original mats plus weather-tech (or some other) rubberized, nice mats. Original manualOriginal tool kit - haven't looked at it.I don't have time for Mercy and I hope you do. Calls will be too difficult for me to field but I'll answer best I can. I prefer no test appointments but the car is parked on wide street at this point if you need to see it. It's all 100% Thanks for consideration! --Matt
