Vehicle Detail
2006 2D rubicon - Second owner. *BROKEN FRONT AXLE* This has been my daily driver (80 miles round trip) for the last eight years with occasional mild off-roading (state forest roads and trails). The jeep has a little over 171k miles. It runs nicely. I change the oil regularly and replaced the plugs in August of 2017. There have been no major mechanical problems -until last week when the jeep slid into a guardrail. The angle was very shallow so there was minimal body damage (Front fender and rear quarter panel). But, the front wheel contacted one of the I-beams that supports the rail. The front driver's rim was destroyed and, when we went to replace the wheel, we also noticed that the front axle housing was cracked (and likely broke the front axle as well). Otherwise, The 4WD works and transitions smoothly with no grinding. Both front and rear lockers engage with no problems. The engine runs smoothly, doesn't burn oil, no knocks or pings. There are some cosmetic issues, mostly rust. Both front fenders are rusted through and will need replacing. The same is also true for the windshield frame. The windshield is also cracked. The rest of the rust is mostly superficial except for around the filler-neck. The rock-rails are also rusted, but that also appears to be mostly superficial. The top is original and torn around the edges. This happened this fall when I was putting it back up. This jeep is sold AS IS with no guaranties, or warranties of any kind. I have made every effort to describe the vehicle as best as I can. The vehicle is NOT drivable. It will need to be towed or trailered. It can be seen at Tallmadge Tire in Cortland NY. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns On Dec-30-17 at 10:28:02 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE: There have been a few common questions so I will address them here for everyone Pictures of the interior: I will take some interior photos this weekend, probably Sunday. But here are some details: The seats have some stains (really only the passenger seat I believe) but the fabric is intact: no tears or rips. The "leather" on the steering wheel is worn and, like most of these jeeps, does get a little sticky when it's humid. The "leather" has also mostly worn off the top of the gearshift nob. The center console cover fabric is also cracked, though intact. The rug under the heel of my right foot is likewise worn. I use an all-weather mat and change it every other year, but I guess my right foot is heavy The shifter boot is intact with no tears or holes. The rear seat is practically like new Pictures of the axle, frame Pictures of the axle/frame are more problematic: the jeep is outside; there is snow on the ground; it is 5 degrees above zero here in central NY. When the mechanic put the jeep on the lift to replace the damaged wheel he noticed that the axle housing was cracked and no longer straight. He assumed that the axle was also broken and that the entire front axle would have to be replaced. He didn't do an extensive inspection, mostly because I wasn't going to spend the 3-4 thousand dollars to replace it. Also, because it's not really a "Jeep" shop, I don't know if it is just the housing that needs replacing, or the axle assembly and related components. The jeep is "drivable" They can move it around the yard as needed. My mechanic told me it could easily be driven onto a trailer. The underside is like you would expect for a jeep in central NY. The frame has surface rust, but there are no holes in the frame as far as I know. All the mechanicals are in good shape. The floors are solid and intact. There is a small worn spot near the accelerator pedal where my heal sits while I am driving but it is not worn through, just scuffed - picture to be posted this weekend.
