Vehicle Detail
Reserve has been lowered! 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS California Special. J code 302 engine (period correct block with Shelby intake manifold and valve covers). Matching numbers C4 auto transmission. This is a beautiful nut and bolt rotisserie restoration from the early 2000's. Looks like it was done recently. Paint looks great and shiny. Just some rock chips and a light scratch here and there. Hard to notice. Red oxide primer underneath and in places where the factory would have done it. (see pictures). There is too much to list but I will try. Factory highly optioned. Factory 8k Tach, clock, Interior decor group, Black out hood treatment, Black vinyl roof, California Special, Console, Power disc brakes, Power steering, Air Conditioning - SelectAire, Am Radio, Tinted glass, wheel well trim, Deluxe seat belts and the rare rear window defogger etc. Framed elite marti report included showing this mustang to be a 1 of 1. The California Special is a limited one year run. It is said that only about 1300 or so are in existence. What makes this one very interesting is that on the inner fender apron, it shows the VIN but in the hidden section inside the panel it shows a factory voided VIN of the promotional California Special that ford displayed. Nice piece of ford history there! It also has the original and very rare Marchal lights! There is NO rust as all the metal is original! I have around 15k-20k+ in receipts that I have spent in less than 2 years of ownership doing maintenance, parts, repairs, tires, modern factory looking radio and so on not including the purchase price. I have much more invested than the "asking" price. I have extra new parts that come with the car. Pretty much everything I replaced I kept and comes with car. Including the original autolite 4300d 4v carburetor which is rebuilt and bagged, original york a/c compressor and spare (new sanden R-12 a/c compressor and brackets installed (30lb tank of R-12 Freon included!) Believe me, I don't want to sell her. This is my dream car but due to financial circumstances and job injury, I have to sell. I have California registrations from the 80's showing it had 35k miles on one of them as well as an original letter from Ford headquarters and other miscellaneous items from the 80's and 90's. Feel free to ask any questions as i'm sure I will forget something. Can send pics of any location of the car as requested. Drive train and under-hood: J Code 302 (period correct), 4 barrel Edelbrock performer carburetor (new), still have original autolite 4300 d 4v carb with number tag. Ford Shelby intake manifold, factory hipo exhaust manifolds (new). Heads were recently re done. Fast car with a mild cam. New Magnaflow dual exhaust with H pipe and GT exhaust tips. Still have complete transverse muffler and resonators. Rear end is 8" with 3:00 gears. There is a small whine at certain speeds but I have the complete new ring and pinion and bearing master kit new in the box. Original matching numbers C4 transmission. Recently had the front seal replaced along with gaskets and fluid. ($550.00) Transmission is dependable and shifts thru the gears. It has a shift kit installed at the time of the restoration. I am not a fan of those but will chirp the tires from first to second. Because of the shift kit, when you drive her hard or quickly, she shifts perfectly. When driving slow and relaxed, first and second gear shifts quickly and third slides in. Transmission shop explained that to me when I had the front seals replaced. Has a small slight oil leak underneath (typical of these motors). Oil is still full at time of oil change. All new hoses (power steering, radiator, A/C, PVC, Brake booster, vacuum, fuel etc. New power steering power valve. Fuel line is insulated and top end edelbrock fuel filter. Recent tune up with autolite platinum AP45 plugs and wires (most concourse hoses and clamps). Autolite distributor with electronic points and flame thrower II coil. (New) . New Tuff Stuff 100 amp alternator with high amp regulator. New Holley mechanical fuel pump. New ACP Max-core aluminum 3 row radiator(looks factory) still have original radiator like new. Brand new ford contour dual electric fan and sensor and 2 pusher fans in front of the condenser. Stays cool in traffic. Plugged off heater hose to accommodate the sensor. Hose can be reconnected if needed. Not needed here in FL. New evaporator control valve and dryer. No overheating issues in summer heat! Still have the original mechanical fan. Like I said, I keep all replaced parts. I have a Tony Branda aluminum cobra air cleaner with the K&N filter that comes with the car. Could not install due to the 1/4 inch carburetor base insulator. Car is reliable and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it any distance. Again so many to list. Feel free to ask questions as i'm sure I've missed something. Suspension and wheels: New GT front coils(factory ride height). New KYB gas shocks all around. Chrome GT rims with new stainless steel GT Caps (kept the old ones). Newer Cooper Cobra Tires with only a few hundred miles on them (235/60/14). Could use a high speed balance as you get some shake around 60-68 mph. All control arms and bushings are good. Has front factory sway bar. Steering has a little bit of play (common) but I have no problems with it. Could probably tighten the adjust screw on the steering box. New front slotted disc rotors and HP pads, and rear drums. I have the original front rotor with very little miles on them. Interior: Interior decor group. Comfort weave luxury seats. I have brand new TMI seat foams in the box for the front seats (upper and lower) included. Wood grain dash, door panel and overhead console with map lights. Interior lights were working perfectly until about a month ago. The fuse pops which means a wire must be pinched and needs to be traced. I installed the extended seat trackers for the drivers side to be able to slide the seat further back. New show quality wood grain factory steering wheel ($500). Center console, rare rear fan defogger, custom auto sound retro radio (300 watts) plays AM/FM, MP3, SD plug connections, AUX and can be upgraded for Bluetooth. Pioneer 5x8 high watt speakers and new kick panels with pioneer high watt speakers. Slim low profile 10" self powered sub woofer. I have it on the rear passenger floor. Didn't have time to position it under the seat where it belongs. Gives it a nice thump! Perfect headliner. All windows crank fine. Fresh air vents do not leak water from the cowl. Air Conditioning blows cold and no freon leaks. Uses R-12 Freon to which I have a 30lb tank of R-12 Freon that comes with the car! Again, I have the original working York AC compressor and a Second original York AC compressor for parts that comes with the car. Custom factory repo rubber pony floor mats with the dual white stripes. Carpet is in great shape. Ask questions as I might have missed something. Exterior: Factory Sunlit Gold paint (base coat clear coat). Looks great! Again, just some rock chips and scratches. Very minimal and normal for the age. Easy to touch up. All original metal with no bondo and NO RUST! Which includes the undercarriage(see pics). Wheel well molding trim. Black vinyl roof looks new and shiny. All original Car lite glass all around. Front windshield is brand new and is a ford car lite glass and does not leak(not cheap). Hood turn signals and front and back turn signals all work including brake and running lights (New brake switch installed). The interior left turn signal bulb in the dash needs to be replaced. Burnt out a couple of months ago. All chrome and stainless parts are shiny with no pitting. All weather seals are great included the trunk. Original dealer tag frame from the 60's(not cheap). Again, I might have missed something so ask away. Trunk: Clean as a whistle! Comes with a matching chrome gt rim and matching tire! factory jack, tire cover and mat. I have tons of original spare parts, new parts and items that comes with the car. In general, this is a very rare model becoming less and less available over time especially one this clean! Originally only 4118 California Specials were made and of those about 250 were High Country cars so you can say that about 3868 GT/CS were made. As of today there are estimates of about 1300-1500 left! These can only go up in price especially one in this condition. NADA price guide has this one retailing for $55960 in excellent condition like this one! I have more pictures I can send upon request. Can take specific pics and videos that you might need to see. Please Note: Bank has title as there is small balance left. AS-IS No warranties expressed or implied. Buyer responsible for picking up or transport. Deposit is non-refundable. **Car is for sale locally. Auction may end early. Don't wait.
