I walk through the exterior, interior, engine compartment/trunk, and some demos of turning the car on with jumper cables connected. I highly recommend that you take a look! Each of the video links will take you to a Youtube-like preview in Google Drive. Video 1: External tour of the car, highlighting cosmetic issues described in this listing. Video 1a: Also see my first attempt at this external walk-around video. I missed some details covered in the video above, but this gives an alternate view of the body and attempts to show acorn dents. Video 2: Showing the dashboard as the car is turned on (no engine, just power, with jumper cables connected). This also shows the radio working. Video 3: Showing the engine turning over / powering on for a few seconds, with jumper cables connected. I had to press the gas pedal to get the engine to come on and prevent it from stalling. I didn't want to risk damage by doing this for more than a few seconds, but it shows that the engine has plenty of hope! Video 4: Quick look at external lights with the car hooked up to jumper cables. Video 5: A look at the front interior of the car. Video 6: A look at the rear interior of the car. Video 7: A look inside the trunk. Video 8: A look under the hood. The Story This has been my personal car since 2010. Prior to that it was my brother's car for a few years. It had just over 7,000 miles when my brother bought it in 2007, so it's been in the family for most of its lifetime. It has 143,855 miles, I would say about 75-80% highway miles. Note that the title in my name is dated 12/9/2015, but this is just when we legally transferred the title - such is the way of things with family cars. But as noted, this has been 100% my personal car since I bought it "unofficially" from my brother in 2010. I purchased a new car last year after the mechanical problems with this car cropped up, so do be aware that this car has been sitting unused for about one year. Mechanical Issues The engine has timing problems and stalls immediately after starting. At the end of my time using this car I was able to drive it for a short distance (about half a mile) in order to move it for storage by gassing the engine at idle. You can see a short demo of turning the engine on while gassing (with jumper cables connected) in Video 3 here. The battery was reported by my mechanic to be swollen and have abnormal voltage. The battery will certainly need to be replaced. However, at the time I went to the mechanic the battery was only 1 year old. I don't know if the engine timing problems could cause issues with the electrical system, or if this might indicate some separate problem with the electrical system. When I took pictures the battery was completely dead, and I had to use jumper cables to turn the power on in order to show the dashboard and lights activated. The engine was also losing oil - I was topping up with a quart roughly every 1,000-1,500 miles. I don't know whether it was burning or leaking. I never noticed any smoke, blue or otherwise, while driving. I live at an apartment with street parking so I didn't have a consistent parking spot, so I can't say with confidence whether or not oil was leaking. However, I did look under the car several times after it had been parked for a few days and never saw an oil spot. Detailed engine/battery back story follows... The check engine light came on around March 2016 and I continued to drive it for several months without a repair. Over time the car started to have gradually more and more sluggish acceleration, though it was still drivable. I had the car stall once or twice in colder weather while idling with the defroster on. Testing this at home, I found that with the defroster on, the car would sometimes stall when kicking on the AC system. The stalling stopped with warmer weather. I was able to drive with the AC without any stalling issues when the weather grew hot - not sure why this was different. When I brought the car to my mechanic in July 2016, he told me that there was an engine code of P0341, "Camshaft Position Sensor Incorrect Phase Detected". He also reported that the battery was swollen, had abnormal voltage, and would need replacement soon. The mechanic replaced the cam solenoid/spool valve, but the same engine code came back on and the performance issues were not improved. The mechanic told me car was "losing time" and that the timing chain (chain, not belt) would need to be replaced to fix the issues. He estimated this repair at $1,000. I elected to replace the car instead of repairing it at that time. I drove the car for a few hundred more miles when it began to stall immediately after starting, rendering the car unusable. The car has been sitting unused since then, around August 2016. Other Issues The rear driver-side wheel is seized and does not roll. I never had any problems with this when using the car, but apparently it's something that can happen to cars that sit in storage for a while. I was able to remove the lugnuts and take off the wheel/tire, as if to put on a spare. When making sharp turns (e.g. to get into a parking spot or around a tight corner), the front wheels make a clicking sound. I didn't have any issues with this in highway driving. The stereo/clock display's backlight is out. The display itself still works normally and can be seen in daylight, but it's pretty much impossible to see in the dark. The backlight has come back on intermittently, so it might be a loose connection. The stereo system itself works fine. The front left headlight (low beam) is out, but it should just need a new bulb. Lastly, the car needs a good cleaning inside and out. Normally I would have gotten the car detailed (or at least washed) before selling it, but the mechanical issues make that impractical. I really should give it a decent cleaning myself, but I just don't have the time to do so before selling it - sorry! Cosmetic/Body Issues The body is in good overall condition with no significant rust spots or damage. There has never been any structural/frame damage or water damage. Please see the photos/videos for more detail, but I'll describe the notable points here. You can see everything with a live walk around the car in Video 1, where I point out the issues described here. All of the issues described here are also shown in photos, so please make sure you take a look at the full gallery here. The roof has some deep scratches and dents on the front left (above driver's seat). The roof, hood, and trunk all have a bunch of small, shallow round dents from acorns falling onto the car. The hood has a round gash about the size of a nickel. This was a rust spot that was cleaned out and filled in with touch-up paint. The hood generally has small flecks of rust spots across it, but none are large or deep. There is also a small cleaned out + filled in former rust spot, smaller than a dime, on the top edge of the front left quarter panel. There is a long gash / swipe on the left side of the rear bumper cover, which has been partially filled in with touch-up paint. The front bumper cover has yellow paint swipes on the left side. The headlight covers are a bit foggy, but nothing out of the ordinary for a car of this age. There are some long sweeping shallow scuff/scratches across the top of the trunk. The back of the rear bumper cover has many short but deep scratches. Inside, to the right of the driver's side sun visor there is a dark (off-color) spot in the fabric, around the size of a dime. (you can see this in Video 5). Accident History This car has a clean Carfax and was never involved in an accident, aside from a fender bender described below and one or two instances of bumper damage while parked. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE CARFAX REPORT! I had a fender bender in 2012 in a parking lot, in which a car backed out of a parking spot and bumped into the back left side of this car, which was stationary. I had to have the left rear quarter panel and rear bumper cover repaired. The front bumper cover was damaged by another vehicle while the car was parked around 2013 and was replaced. Other Car Notes I replaced all 4 tires in September 2014, so there is a little under 2 years of use on them. Unfortunately I didn't record the mileage at that time, but I have one or two photos showing the tread depth with a penny. They're in very good shape overall. Do note that the car was dragged on and off of a flatbed tow truck while the left rear wheel was seized up, so probably a total of 30-50 feet of dragging on that tire. These are Michelin Premier A/S 94H 205/65R15 tires. All electrical stuff works fine, except for the left headlight and radio display's backlight being out as noted above. Otherwise the stereo, lights, blinkers, power locks, remote, power windows, power mirrors, etc. all work fine. The heat + air conditioning work great. The condenser was replaced and the system repaired in mid-2014 and has worked great since then. The windshield has been replaced, all other auto glass is original from the factory. The "donut" spare tire is included and is in very good shape. It has been used for probably around 100-200 miles in total. We installed an iPod adapter years back, which I replaced more recently with a simple aux connector. This involved drilling about a 1" diameter hole in the back of the storage bin at the bottom of the dashboard (CD storage area right behind the gear shifter), and having a cable sticking out of it into the cabin that can be connected to a phone. The sound through this connector is very noisy (it needs some kind of "ground loop" setup) so you may want to just ditch it. I'm just noting that this installation was done.
