Vehicle Detail

This car needs a replacement camshaft according to the local VW dealer. It runs and drives. 2005 Passat GLS TDI Diesel with 148,566 miles. Black exterior, black real leather interior. This vehicle has the BHW code engine, which is a strong running unit. This car has NO water damage, and was never in any water, nor was it in a flood. This vehicle was in the shop at West Houston VW during hurricane Harvey. This vehicle is subject to prior sale, and is being advertised outside of eBay. I will make all efforts to remove this sale promptly from eBay if the vehicle sells elsewhere, or I decide to keep the vehicle and repair it myself. Repairs by a professional to replace the camshaft and associated parts are approximately $2,600 (parts and labor). I bought this car new in September 2004, so I have been the sole owner. I have always maintained this car to the best of standards anytime it has needed anything. I never cut corners. I have all major VW dealer receipts that will go with the car, and my personal notebook of maintenance will also go with the car. I also have the original owners manual and window sticker. This car has real leather seats, not leatherette, wood trim, and heated seats and cold weather package. See the window sticker for more. I ordered the vehicle and got as many options as possible. This vehicle was in Michigan until April 2011, when I moved to Houston TX, where it is now. It was my daily driver until June 2017. It has always been garage kept. I have a variety of extra, all new parts that will go with this sale. New oil filters, new engine air filters, new cabin air filters, new fuel filters, new N75 valve, new Valeo alternator, about 20 liters of 505.01 Ravenol 5w-40 oil, 2 side view mirror glass, electrical AC relay (like a fuse), new belt tensioner pulley unit, aftermarket service book, and maybe some other odds and ends if I have anything else. The bad: 1. This car needs a camshaft according to the local VW dealer. It still runs and drives, but the engine is occasionally stumbling and white smoke will at times come from the exhaust. I drove it to the car wash on Saturday September 23, 2017, then parked it. No stumbling on that trip but a small amount of white smoke came from the exhaust while I was in line. 2. There is just a small amount of rust on the driver front fender. See the picture. 3. The vanity light above the driver visor does not work, the wire is broken inside, as it has been since it was 1 year old. 4. The drive side, outer, front CV boot needs to be replaced. The joint is not clicking. I will include a new GKN boot kit with the sale. The good (impeccable maintenance, in reverse order for major items): 1. 148,541 miles, September 2017, new coolant flange, thermostat and temperature sender. Replace glow plug module. Replace EGR cooler. Replace fuel injector seals. We thought the smoke was the injector seals, and the EGR cooler was bad and caused lots of exhaust steam. After we got it back together, we noticed an engine stumble and white smoke, so the dealer checked the camshaft, and said it was going bad. See below, it was previously replaced. 2. 142,000 miles, October 8, 2016, replace battery. 3. 139, 954 miles, July 20, 2016, replace electric engine cooling fan. 4. 139,247 miles, June 21, 2016, replace mechanical engine cooling fan clutch. 5. 139,218 miles, June 17, 2016, replace throttle body air flapper valve, replace all brake pads and rotors, flush brake fluid and replace, replace front outer passenger CV boot. 6. 134,000 miles, December 7, 2016, replace the comfort control module under the driver seat. 7. 129,004 miles, May 2015, replace heater core. 8. 122,585 miles, September 12, 2014, replace camshaft and all associated parts, replace timing belt, water pump, mass airflow sensor, and AC belt. 9. 100,020 miles, August 23, 2012, replace voltage regulator and brushes unit in alternator. 10. 99,939 miles, August 16, 2012, replace alternator clutch pulley 11. 97,500 miles, April 7, 2012, replace 8 front control arms, 2 tie rod ends, 2 sway bar links, 2 sway bar bushings, replace the balance shaft module with VW geared unit, perform timing belt replacement, water pump, tensioner, replace 2 front struts, replace 2 rear shocks, transmission service, front end alignment, install Diesel Geek Panzer Plate. In September or October 2010, someone bumped into my passenger side rear door. The outside door skin sheet metal and glass were professionally replaced and covered by my insurance carrier. The door seal does not whistle, and evidence of this repair is not visible. I presume it would show up in a Carfax report, but I have never checked. The transmission and turbo are original, and I have never had any issues with those items. Rear tires are like new. Front tires are good. Here in Houston, I would drive the front tires at least another 18 months. One front tire is newer than the other due to a flat that could not be repaired, so the tire was replaced. All oil changes were with 505.01 oil, and after the first camshaft was replaced, it was always 5w-40. Oil was changed about every 3,000-6,000 miles. Lots of other small items (e.g. Bulbs, wiper blades) were replaced as necessary. Comes with multiple sets of floor mats, all used. The wheels are original and each have curb scuffs. Passenger door has a red mark from a grocery cart, and a very small ding. Headlights should be re-aimed. Door and trunk hinges have been regularly oiled. Hood and trunk cylinders have been replaced a few years ago and work very well. There is no warranty. Car is sold as is, where is. If the buyer lives within a few hours of Houston, I personally would drive the car to where it needs to be as I don't think there would be any engine issues in running it. However, that risk is on the buyer. If the car does not sell, I will repair the camshaft and keep it or try sell again. I want to keep this car, but can't justify the monthly insurance cost to let it sit in the garage as a spare car, which I might just do ... and call it my hobby. Thanks for reading.
