"The 318ti was offered with a California Package option. This was a power sliding canvas roof that opened up the top of the car. Not quite a convertible but still cool open air driving. Cars with that option are very rare and not often for sale. It is estimated that only 600 California editions were produced in 1996." This BMW 318ti version includes the rare Webasto Style California folding Canvas roof. It is similar to the Panoramic sunroofs in cars seen today and offers the benefits of open air convertible driving in a solid 3 door hatchback. This is a listed factory option for the car and the California Edition includes, Cloth seats, Cruise control, Leather Steering Wheel and Gear Shift, Cloth Headliner, Alloy Wheels, and same color as body bumpers and rocker panels. The EPA mileage rating is 23 city / 31 highway. It includes the reliable M44 engine producing 142 hp and 139 lb/ft of torque. The BMW 318ti hatchback was only offered in the US from 1995 - 1998 approximately 7,000 were produced in 1996 and of that only a small percentage were available with the highly desirable canvas roof. I have extensive service records on the car and have taken care of it during my ownership. It has been garaged the entire time and lightly driven with only 108,000 original miles. The previous owner spared no expense in maintaining the car and I have copies of most of the service records. All work has been completed with original OEM parts at European car specialists. The body is very clean and free from any defects and rust. The previous owner had the body shop repair some deep scratches on the right side of the car according to the records and the paintwork is very good for the age of the car. It shines brightly. There are some scratches at the very top of the trunk lid which could be touched up possibly from a bike rack. Alloys are clean and in very good condition. Tires have approximately 19,000 miles on them since new at 88,162 miles and 4 wheel alignment on 11/29/2016. Car drives straight and true with no issues. The car has a full MA State Inspection in November of 2016 and everything looked to be in very good condition. The Service Advisor noted front pads may need to be changed in the future but were within specs at the time. This is my 3rd 318ti that I have owned and, overall, the best that I have seen as far as condition and maintenance completed..
