Vehicle Detail
Here's an opportunity to build a really cool 1968 Firebird Convertible. It has the original, numbers matching 350 V-8 engine that has never been apart- according to the man who owned it from 1970 until I bought it. It has the Rochester 2 barrel carb and "Super Turbine 300" 2 speed automatic with column shift. It came from the factory painted Aleutian Blue- a beautiful blue/ gray color- and had a teal interior and top. It's equipped with power brakes, power steering, and power top. I found a "body broadcast" build sheet tucked under the rear seat springs that was placed there about this time of year in 1968. The engine block is date coded E178, which I've learned means it was cast May 17, 1968. The engine vin number matches the body vin. It's the YJ block code, which is the 265 horsepower 350 cubic inch 2 barrel block for automatic transmission 1968 Firebirds. The block casting number is 9790079. Passenger side head is dated E148- May 14, 1968. The driver side head is dated E078- May 7, 1968. The intake manifold is stamped 9794233 and is dated D168- April 16, 1968. The 2 barrel Rochester carb part number is 7034794. I can't find a date stamp on it. I have virtually all the parts for the car- only things it's missing that I'm aware of are the wheels, radio, windshield, rear bumper, the carpet, and one of the truck-mounted "cocktail shaker" vibration dampers. I do have a spare set of gauges, a spare front bumper, and a spare cowl cover. It needs a complete trunk pan, floor pans, driver's foot well/ firewall extension, and upper dash panel- they're actually all pretty cheap and are available from many online and local vendors. The quarter panels were replaced when it was painted the wrong blue color many years ago- they're 1968 Camaro quarters, so would want to be replaced. There are miscellaneous typical patches needed around the body. I've tried to show them in my pics. The car does run and drive- I actually drove it the couple miles home when I bought it, but it wasn't a great idea. It does need completely gone over before driving it. It sat since the 1980s, but was routinely started by the prior owner and myself. I bought and installed a correct upper radiator hose and clamps. I also have the heater hoses and a lower radiator hose that proved to be a couple inches short. Apparently 1967 lower radiator hoses are a couple inches longer and should fit. I bought the correct clamps for all the hoses. I also bought pre-bent fuel lines that aren't installed- I ran flexible fuel line from the fuel pump to the tank as a temporary fix. It has a newer battery, new reproduction battery cables, and I replaced the brake master cylinder (and kept the original). I'm selling because I work 7 days a week, so son't have much time to tinker. Please let me know what questions you have and I'll do my best to find the answers for you. I'm happy to help load it on your trailer or work with your transportation company to get it to you. I ask that you contact me once you've won the auction and to provide me a $500 deposit within 48 hours of the end of the auction. You can pay the balance when you pick it up, or before your transportation company arrives. Thanks! On Jun-06-16 at 10:40:02 PDT, seller added the following information: I just took a bunch of pictures of the rear subframe area- it just has surface rust. The front subframe has surface rust, too. On the driver's side front subframe behind the front wheel where it is parallel to the ground, there is a flat dent on the bottom of the subframe. Looks like it scraped on something. Let me know if you'd like any pictures. I've reached the limit of 24 on the listing, but can send others to anyone who's interested.
