Vehicle Detail

This bike represents the last of Butler & Smith's influence on the BMW corporate mothership. For those of you familiar with BMW motorcycling history, Butler & Smith was the proprietary importer for BMW motorcycles until the end of the 1980 model year. As BMW's "boots on American ground", Butler & Smith had a lot of influence on many aspects of these machines including colors and configurations. As such, B&S came up with some creative ideas. One of them, and this is a surviving example, is the "R100TS"......yes, a TS. B&S wanted to offer a 1000cc with the S fairing and the factory solo seat to the public in colors other than the smoke red. (This one is a beautiful blue with white stripes.) So they ordered a handful of these bikes for their US dealers. This one was received by and sold by Lindner Cycle Shop in New Canaan, Ct...and is in as-delivered configuration! It's still wearing its original paint, pin-striping and accessories as delivered by B&S to Lindner....a TRUE SURVIVOR! Very very rare these days. It has a few nicks in the paint from normal use, but it's in fantastic condition considering its age. The seat upholstery is tear and rip-free, and the foam is still very soft and comfortable. The solo seat alone, with it's factory paint and striping is worth $1000 on its own today. Add in the S-fairing (today, a color-matched S fairing would cost you over $1500 with the mounting hardware and gauges), the Albert mirrors, and the 2nd seat, and the value here is tremendous. Upon delivery, Lindner added a beefy alloy top triple clamp to replace the wimpy stamped steel factory piece, an alloy fork brace, and super-cool and uber rare Albert Sport mirrors! Other than that, this bike has gone unchanged since it rolled off the boat from Munich. The Krauser luggage also comes with the bike, both are in great condition, no cracks or abrasions, and all of the locks work! Again, remarkable for a 36 year old machine. This is a 1-owner bike with only 49,500 miles on it, and it comes with a folder filled with an inch-thick stack of receipts, including the original bill of sale from Lindner, and it shows as an "R100TS". So for those that want proof of provenance and proof of actual mileage, it doesn't get any better than this! The bike was loved by it's owner and the pile of receipts to prove the maintenance and service history is blatantly obvious, and it's reflected in the bike's condition today. The bike comes with both the solo seat and the factory dual seat, which appears to have never been used and in the same correct paint! Also included are some spare parts, including low Euro handlebars, the underseat storage box for the dual seat, factory tool kit, Owner's manual, keys for all locks including the Krauser bags, factory touch-up paint, BMW accessory rear fender extender/mudflap, and a few other goodies as shown in the photo. The bike starts easily, runs fantastically, doesn't smoke, doesn't make any unusual noises, it doesn't leak any fluids, newer clutch, new cables, stops great, and everything works as it should. The tires are near new too, as are the brakes. The receipts show that the engine's top end was gone through with new pistons, rings, etc at about 22,500 miles. According to the owner, it was due to his insistence to minimize oil consumption before the warrantee expired....! I purchased the bike recently with the intention of turning it into an RS, but it's just too nice of an original bike with an interesting provenance to put a wrench onto, so I'm making it available to those that want a survivor type bike in fantastic unmolested condition. I'll find another bike to molest. :-) Anyway, the photos should tell the story, but if you want to come see the bike, call me at (917) 952-1680. No test rides unless you hand me a stack of cash as collateral. Fly in, ride it home, even if home is across the country, this bike NEEDS NOTHING to be ridden away. See more photos at my website: www.emotionmotorclassics Thanks. On Mar-27-16 at 17:38:49 PDT, seller added the following information: A few notes: it has a new battery, complete factory tool kit under the seat in the tool tray, factory-installed 12-volt accessory port for heated clothing or a battery tender, and the chrome on the mufflers is in excellent condition. Mufflers are factory "Zeuna" mufflers. Thanks for all of the positive responses and questions!
