This is our personally owned 1972 BMW roundie that we've owned for a few years. According to BMW Mobile Tradition, this particular car was originally delivered to a Vancouver, BC resident. After a few years in Vancouver, the car came to the east coast with its owner who relocated to Greenwich, Ct. After accumulating typical parking lot dings and normal wear and tear blemishes, approximately 20 years ago the car was sympathetically taken down to bare metal and treated to a professional re-paint in its factory original Atlantik blue, a color rarely seen on these cars. Complimented by tan upholstery, tan carpeting, very nice stainless steel trim, this car struts its stuff with an air of elegance, poise and the confidence of over 40 years of automotive reverence. Since I have not owned this car since day 1, I cannot attest to the true mileage of the car. The odometer says 72,000 miles, which could be 172,000, 272,000, or 30,072,000 miles. No one can be sure. However, the optics tell me that this car does not have high miles, the underside is nice and clean (see photos), and the engine and trans operate smooth and strong with no unusual noises or smoke. The previous owner told me that he had the engine "gone through" a year before he sold it to me. I believe him because the engine pulls strong and sounds sweet. The car runs out, stops and handles extremely nicely. The underside of the car is very clean with no signs of any rot or any other concerns. The shock towers are rust free and rock solid, as are the rockers. This car does not have a sunroof, which explains why the rockers are not rotted out! Tasteful and period correct upgrades include beautiful ATS wheels (and 4 brand new tires) and a front air dam. Topping off the driver’s experience is a genuine Moto Lita steering wheel. This car also comes with the original factory steel wheels and stainless steel hubcaps, the original steering wheel, the front bumper over-riders, a brand new in the box carpet kit, and a few miscellaneous spares…..all in excellent condition. Everything works as it should, but keep in mind that this is a 44-year old car that is driven with some regularity. As such, there are a few acquired blemishes; there are a few small paint blisters in the usual places for these cars, a few cracks in the dashboard, and the blower motor speed switch works in low and medium speed but not high speed. In short; this is not an over-the-top restoration. I am not representing this car as a Pebble Beach quality restoration. What this is, is a beautiful driver’s car, a car that is used for what it was designed to deliver: the thrill of sporty driving within the limits of your local roadways. A car that you can press hard and take out every day without having to worry about acquiring a paint chip. I highly recommend that you come see this car if you're serious about buying.
