Vehicle Detail
Bug is in vintage condition- it starts immediately and runs well- but vintage condition is what it is. The paint is just as you see it in the pictures, we loved the color because it reminded us of a good- well worn pair of favorite jeans- and we were not interested in changing that! The interior needs work- new upholstery/carpeting and door panels are needed- it has new floor mats, a Bambus bamboo parcel shelf, new tires, powder-coated rims (including the spare!) and removable white walls. Some other accessories are cat eye lens inserts, fog light (not hooked up) on front bumper - original (rare) front bumper. Mileage reads 18,742, clearly that's turned over, maybe more then once, so it's probably 118,742 - maybe 218,742- hard to say- you get the idea, it's a 1961 Beetle after all. It's a 4 speed manual transmission- its working- but it has a LOT of play- you have to get used to that- but it works well once you're used to it. It also has the original 6volt electrical system, not upgraded to 12 volt. That was on the list of things we were going to do to it if we kept it as a project. We just don't have the time to turn this car into the car it deserves to be- so that is why it's for sale. Headliner is falling down/water stained in places- needs replacing. Cleaned gas tank with new valve installed Needs new front windshield- multiple bb shots from neighbor kids from previous owner- but is drivable Some rust in the usual suspect areas- pan and such- might need to be looked at but I wasn't worried about it. Most electrical lights work but tail lights are intermittent- brake lights too. Needs to be sorted out- headlights work, brights work, but it seems to be working sometimes and not others. Needs a good going through- time- not expensive, but electrical problems are always a joy to troubleshoot. If you know what you're doing probably not a big deal it's pretty basic wiring in there- but if you don't and want to drive this as your cross country vehicle (someone actually asked me that!) I'd rethink that until some of those basics are sorted by someone that knows VW Beetles. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask. It's really an awesome but- terrific basis to start a project on since it starts and runs and can actually be driven, but let's be honest- it needs some love and sorting!
