Vehicle Detail

1973 Lincoln Mark IV - 460 V8 AutomaticLow Miles, Fantastic Interior, Lots of Work Already Done! Up for auction is my 1973 Lincoln Mark IV with only about 47,000 miles on it. Judging from the condition of the interior and the engine, I don't think the odometer has turned over. I've had it for about six months, and in that time, I've done a lot of work to the car and put about $1500 worth of new parts on it. The car runs and drives very well - I've taken it to work (about 100 miles round trip) many times without a problem. I've tried to describe everything in detail below. If you have questions after reading the description and looking at the pictures, or want additional pictures or information, feel free to send me a message. Engine The car has a 460 V8 that runs very well. It idles smooth and accelerates quickly without any hesitation. Oil pressure is excellent, and it never runs hot (even in traffic). There are no knocks or other odd noises. It does leak a small amount of oil from the rear main seal (what car this age doesn't?). It leaks mainly when the car is sitting, and doesn't seem to affect the oil level much, but it should be replaced. There are no exhaust leaks, however the resonator unit near the tail pipe is rusted through. You can remove it and replace it with a section of straight pipe: it doesn't make the exhaust loud (this car is super quiet!) or cause any other issues. I've done the following work to it: New Edelbrock carburetor (1411 Performer 750 CFM)New Edelbrock intake (2166 BBF Performer)New Edelbrock air filter (original air cleaner will come with the car)New Pertronix Ignitor II electronic ignition conversion (no more points!)New Pertronix Flamethrower II coilNew tune-up parts (spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter, coolant flush, oil/filter)Rebuilt water pumpNew fuel pumpNew beltsRebuilt alternatorAll new hoses (radiator, heater, PCV, fuel, and most vacuum hoses)New valve cover gasketsNew valve stem sealsNew power window motorsNew timing set (chain and gears - "straight up" Cloyes timing set to eliminate factory timing retard), cover, and front seal Transmission/Driveline The car has the tough C6 three-speed automatic. It shifts very well, with no harsh shifts or clunks. I replaced the fluid and filter, and put a new pan gasket on it. It does not leak from the pan; however, it does have a small leak from the kickdown lever seal when it sits for more than a few days (common on these cars). I have the seal: I haven't installed it, but it will go with the car, and it's an easy job. The differential is fine and makes no odd noises. Brakes/Tires/Wheels The car has power front disc/rear drum brakes. The car stops very well, without any pulling or noise, so I haven't done any work to the brakes. The parking brake (and its automatic release) works really well. I will throw in about $200 worth of new brake system parts (master cylinder, rear drums, shoes, front pads, hardware, brake hoses, wheel seals) with the car. The car is equipped with the "Sure Track" ABS system. Suspension The car goes straight down the road with no vibration or shimmy, and the ride is very smooth and quiet, even at highway speeds. It has power steering, which works well with no squeaks or groans. The tires have been on the car for awhile, but are in good shape. Body The trim and chrome is all there and in excellent condition. The car will need to be repainted, but does not look bad at all. There is surface rust on the roof (caused by the vinyl roof, which had been removed), but absolutely no rust through (even at the lower part of the rear window, which can be a problem on these cars). Other than the surface rust on the roof, there is NO RUST ANYWHERE on this car. It's an original California car, and the body/underbody attests to that. All of the glass is intact and all windows work as they should. There is a small crack in one of the opera windows: it's not too noticeable and doesn't leak or anything, but if you want to replace it, one is available on eBay for about $150. The weatherstipping and seals are in good shape all around. Interior/Electrical The interior is in outstanding shape. The only flaws are minor cracks in the driver's side armrest and a split in the dashboard. The front seats are power, and they work as they should. There isn't a tear or a rip in any of the seats or carpet: the back seat looks like it hasn't been sat in. The headliner is in good shape. The sun visors are in excellent shape. The rear view mirror is in good shape. All of the gauges work well except the Cartier clock (go figure!). All of the interior lights (including the dome light) work. All of the exterior lights except the left cornerning light work: the problem is a frayed wire near the left headlight door that simply needs to be patched. The vacuum-controlled headlight doors work fine. The vent, heater, and defroster controls all work well, but the blower motor makes noise and should be replaced (it's easily accessed and pretty cheap on Rock Auto). The wipers work well, but need new blades. I bought a used washer fluid reservoir and washer motor (the old one was cracked) that will go with the car. The radio is AM/FM/8-track and works well, but when playing 8-track tapes there is some background noise (the head may need to be cleaned). The power antenna is in the up position, but does not respond to the switch on the dash. The power trunk release does not work, but the trunk opens easily with the key and the trunk light works. NEW: A couple of pieces of information in response to questions: 1. The title is clear, and in my name. The car is currently registered in my name in California, and does not expire until May 2016. 2. The car may have the "Silver Luxury Group Option," since it is an unusual silver color, had a silver vinyl roof, and has "cranberry trim," as shown in the last picture I've added. 3. I've lowered the starting price to $1,500, less than 1/4 of the NADA "low retail" value for this car. I've done my best to describe the car and post lots of pictures. Again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. If you're the winning bidder, please pay the $500 deposit within 2 days of the auction's end, and the balance within 3 days.
