Vehicle Detail
Hi, and thanks for stopping by. For sale today is this example of 1998 General Motors craftsmanship known as the Oldsmobile Intrigue. Here is the story behind this car:I got it from a friend who had bought it for his daughter planning for it to be her first car.Upon further review, he deemed the car to be in need of too much work to be practical for his needs.Since I have a similar car, he let me take the car and use whatever parts from it that my car might need. The condition for this was that I had to do the dirty work of finding it its new, forever home. So I am here to fulfill my obligation, and your destiny, dear reader, by helping you become the owner of this vehicle. Here is what I know about the car thus far. I have only taken the car around the block twice so I can't vouch for everything. THE GOOD...Car has new brakes all around according to previous owner. Rotors and pads do look pretty new through the wheels.Air conditioning (climate control) functions according to previous owner. I turned it on, it made noise and heat, but I haven't tested its cooling abilities.Car does run and drive appropriately for short lengths of time, at least. It did make the 45 minute drive from his house to mine.Leather seats are in pretty good shape. Some small cracks but no rips or tears that I have found. Pretty comfy too.Tires are all in good shape.Comes with spare parts, as seen below, LH and RH front OE Fenders and and OE passenger's headlamp. THE BAD:Automatic transmission is faulty. Previous owner has described slippage under more than moderate acceleration, and sometimes when turning. Car did well under low speed conditions when I drove it around the block. So if you limit your activities to driving around my block you could be OK. My friend drove the car about 1,000 miles since he bought it trying to work out the bugs so it will go places. I haven't priced out transmission rebuilds but you could probably get a transmission at a junkyard for around $300 and a bunch of elbow grease later, you're good to go. Somewhere there is a water leak. My GUESS (and this is only a guess based on a previous condition with the car I drive, as well as the location of the moisture) is that the windshield cowl cover (plastic piece under the wipers) is leaking. Water appears to get into the passenger's footwell and back seat area. This leak will need to be isolated and the interior cleaned for mold before using the car in your normal capacity. No big deal really, just take out the carpet and sink it to the bottom of your swimming pool for a few days. Check Engine light is on. Previous owner had it scanned, said it was an EVAP code. My "guess" based on my experience with these and similar GM vehicles is that it pertains to the EVAP canister vent solenoid. In any event the car will not pass inspection with the CEL on, obviously. Park brake cable and driver's side high beam headlamp need repair as well before passing inspection. At least one of the speakers are blown and possibly as many as all of them. If you listen to news & talk radio like I do (and like any proper Oldsmobile driver should) you shouldn't have to worry. Oil is leaking in the engine and this oil smokes a bit when running. I believe this is due to a condition that GM is covering as a recall but don't quote me on that. Check with your local dealer to be sure. If I recall it leaks from the intake manifold area. THE UGLY:Interior needs cleaning on account of the water intrusion.RH front door is rusty at the bottom. This is because it's one of the parts I swapped from my car. Also the mirrors are mismatched as a result of this transaction. LH is color matched, RH is black. Also the key with the vehicle will only open the driver's door since I was too lazy to swap out the cylinders. And no, I won't make you a copy of my key because when you buy this car, you'll know where I live and then you will be able to come steal MY sweet, sweet ride. The parts I took off and replaced with my faulty ones were : RH front door (rust issue), RH front window switch bezel (tab broke during door swap), LH Sun visor (mirror flap won't stay closed), LH Mirror switch (works when it wants). All in all, if you're handy, adventurous, and have good connections at your local junkyard, this would be a good car to tinker with as you go. If you have a similar Intrigue (as I do) and you need some good body panels, some nice leather seats, or what have you; or you drive a Grand Prix, Regal, or Impala and are looking for a low mileage engine swap, this car could be very useful. I drive a MY2000 Intrigue and it has gone over 174K miles with very little complaint, so under the right circumstances (e.g. this car being a different car, made in a different year, and with a different drivetrain), you may have similar results. You could even make it into a sweet playhouse for your kids (clean out the mold first), fashion it into a piece of art, strip out all the accoutrements and drive it to the demolition derby, or sell it for whatever it's worth in scrap which may or may not be more than the ending auction value. If you're buying a new car you could use this as a trade in to get the dealer to knock another $500 off their price which was already $500 too high to begin with. I could go on and on, the possiblities for a car like this are limitless. Anyway this car is for sale today with no reserve. I will start the bidding at 70 bucks to cover my eBay fees so anything over that is gravy for me and my friend so, at the end of the week, you could be the owner of a RUNNING, DRIVING car, just for returning a bunch of empty beer bottles, or whatever it is you drink. ***NOTE *** I will not accept empty beer bottles as payment for this auction. That would take up just as much room in my driveway as this car does. Return them first, then bring me the money. *** ALSO *** Car must PLEASE be picked up within 7 days of auction end. My wife has been very patient with my vehicular escapades thus far but I need to save some good will for when I really need it. My preferred method of payment is cash, paper money please, no rolled coins. *** CAR CANNOT BE TEST DRIVEN, although you can drive it the 3 car lengths up and down my driveway to make sure it moved. As you can see it is not currently registered and will NOT pass inspection. As a result, to reiterate, this car is being offered FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY!!!! *** TITLE: Clear MA title signed over by previous owner, ready for your name and address. I can provide a bill of sale from me upon request if you're concerned about my credibility. Please try to let me know in advance so I can draft that up ahead of time. Any other questions please email. Otherwise, bid high, bid often, and GOOD LUCK!!
