Vehicle Detail

Probably one of the nicest original Gen-1 Sevilles left on the planet. One of the few collectible American cars from the “malaise era”, these were nicely fitted out and well put together - in 1976, this was the most expensive production Cadillac in the lineup. I’m the second owner of this first-year-of-issue Seville, and I’ve owned it for 12 years. When I lived in San Diego, I was in the Cadillac-LaSalle club and this car would routinely win first-place class awards at the national meets. It’s that nice. It also doesn’t hurt that the Georgian Silver is hands-down the most appealing color for this model, and is the color that was used on most of the period advertising of the car. I bought the car from a lady in Pennsylvania who did little more than drive it to church on nice days. It had 39K original miles on it then, and in 12 years I’ve put on 12K more, mostly by doing essentially the same thing – taking it to town for Sunday breakfast on sunny days. I won’t say that it’s never been driven in the rain (this is Oregon, after all), but that’s been by far the exception, and the car has always been garaged. It’s solid, rust free and entirely original, and it runs and drives very tight, like a new car. The only reason that I’m (reluctantly) selling it is that I now have more cars than garage spaces and something has to give. I won’t let this car sit out in the weather, so until it finds a new home one of my other cars is doing exactly that. Exterior: The paint is about 75% original and very good. One front fender was repainted before I got the car, and I had the trunk resprayed after something fell on it in the garage and damaged the finish. Very good matches, in both cases. The car has no rust, no bubbles, no nothing. There are no door dings or chips to speak of; you might be able to find some tiny chip somewhere if you really search, but I’m not aware of anything. The weatherstrips are still lively, and the doors close with a satisfying thunk. Chrome is outstanding, with one vertical scratch on the rear bumper. Undercarriage components have only the usual patina of surface rust; the floors are as solid as the day the car was made. Interior: The leather interior has never been smoked in and is pretty much as-new. There are no splits or rips in the leather, and it’s still supple. I had the front seats re-stuffed a few years ago at a high-end upholstery shop because the original foam was flaking onto the carpet below. The actual leather seat upholstery, however, is still the original. I’m not really sure if anyone’s ever sat in the back seat. Carpets are original, un-stained, unfaded, and unworn as shown in the photos. There is also a nice set of matching plush mats with the Cadillac logo that go with the car; I just took them out for the photos. Headliner is nice, dash is not cracked, and door panels are like new. I had the clock refurbished and it keeps good time. The radio works well and sounds good. The car is still surprisingly quiet going down the road and would put a lot of modern cars to shame. Mechanical: Engine starts and runs well, transmission shifts as it should, and there are no noises, misfires, overheating, or other issues. The car rides and handles well, and stops as it should with no noises or pull. The maintenance is up to date, and the car has required very few repairs in my ownership – the water pump, the brake master cylinder, and the ignition module are the ones that come to mind. The battery is fairly recent, as are the plugs/wires/cap/rotor, and a nearly-new set of Hankook radial tires ride smoothly and are very quiet. I always run Mobil 1 synthetic oil, and it was changed less than 700 miles ago. The engine has extended-life coolant in it, and the brake fluid was changed less than 3 months ago. Transmission fluid and differential oil were changed at 40K miles. Power steering, power brakes, power seats, power antenna, power door locks, and power windows all operate as designed - with the recent exception of the left rear door window. (could be the motor but I highly doubt it, given the frequency of use. Likely needs the connector contacts cleaned). I had the (R-12) air conditioning evacuated and recharged at around 42,000 miles, before I moved up here to Oregon. It worked fine for years, then started to gradually lose charge and cool less and less well over the last two or three years and now it’s low enough that the compressor won’t engage. Since there’s not much use for A/C here on the Oregon coast, I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I just didn’t bother about it. What it really needs, though, is to be converted to R-134, and I’m going to leave that to the new owner. The only other issue is that I can hear a muffled “motorboat” sound from under the rear of the car, so I’m pretty sure that it will need a muffler and/or tailpipe fairly soon. Forty years probably isn’t bad for the original exhaust, though. The other stuff: Please ask any and all questions, and I’ll try to answer them promptly. I’m not a dealer, not a flipper, and not trying to hide or misrepresent anything. I’m just trying to find a good home for a car that’s been a dependable and enjoyable companion for the last dozen years. This would be an ideal candidate for someone who wants to get into the collector-car hobby with a really nice car that won’t break the bank and isn’t a project. According to the Hagerty Valuation Guide and the NADA Classic Car Values, these early Sevilles have just recently (in the last year or two) started to appreciate significantly. So it’s probably a dumb time to sell, after having kept it all these years, but it is what it is. My loss is your gain. (and here you thought you were going to get all the way through this novel without hearing an old trope like that. Hah! Gotcha). The original owner’s manual and the two-volume service manual set go with the car, of course. But……my reserve on this car is reasonable enough so that you can still get into it and build a little equity in terms of market value - nice ones like this are likely only going up from here. If the winning bidder needs to have the car shipped, I will drive it into town to coordinate with the shipper, as you can’t get a semi out here to where I live on the narrow two-lane road. $500 PayPal deposit due within 24 hours, the balance via wire transfer (preferred) or bank check within 7 days, and cleared before pickup of car. Oregon Title is clear and in my name, and the car is currently registered and on the road. Please get all required permissions before bidding and understand that you're not bidding for an opportunity to look at the car and then decide. If you want to inspect the car before the auction ends, contact me.
