Original paint. Wife's pleasure car - New timing belt & water pump. Car is being sold at absolute auction. There is no reserve, and we are making a lifestyle change which includes selling all our cars one by one, so the car must go. I have sold enough cars on eBay to know that it will bring proper market value without having to make you wonder if you're gonna get it or not. Top bidder gets it. Please HONOR your bid. I am selling it as absolute because I have a certain timeframe to maintain, otherwise I wouldn't auction it at all. There is a LOT of info here. Please, guys, take the time to read it all before asking questions. I try to do a thorough and obsessive job of describing my ads in great detail, so that you can know the specifics, and so there won't be any surprises upon item delivery or pickup. If you have questions, please ASK. Hello there fellow eBayers! It's been a while. I have my wife's personal pleasure car up for grabs today. She has loved this car and is sad to see it go. Since we last saw each other, I jumped on the wagon of not obsessively collecting oddball cars and moved away to another country for a while to pursue school and personal endeavors. Well, I've been back for some time and I've gone back to my old habits. I have a collection of 13 vehicles that I will be selling one by one until they are all gone. I have promised my wife to stop messing about with cars, sell them off, and enjoy more time together travelling. Prior to moving away, I was a partner for a popular vehicle donation company, benefitting charity only. Most of these cars were sold on site, but the real healthy, collectible / oddball cars were all sold here, and are visible through my feedback. I am proud to have sold many vehicles and all with perfect feedback. Cars are complicated machines and as such, thee is a lot to divulge to make buyers happy. I believe I have learned the art. I strive to impress and make you feel comforatble with me. I am still helping the auction out and some car appearing here will be from them. This one is not. It is our personal vehicle. This vehicle was obsessed over by both myself AND my wife when it showed up about a year and half ago. My wife loved the interior and I was impressed by the health of the car and how well it was kept by the previous owners. It's not easy keeping a car looking as clean and fresh as this in the Texas heat. We bought it and it became my wife's daily driver. As time pressed on, the traffic in Austin, TX. became unbearable and drivers became downright scary. I urged her to get a bigger car, so we got her a stout Mercedes wagon, akin to a tank. She kept this Bimmer as a backup. Specifics: Body and frame: (360 walkaround video and pics below) Body is in great shape for it's age, never been in a wreck, with nice shiny original paint and freshly waxed, but as you can see in the pictures, there is an impression/dent in the driver's side door and the front lip was damaged when my wife pulled up to a curb too closely. We tried to put it back like new but we ended up having to ziptie it in place. The previous owner kept it perfect for all this time but aparently we had to break the streak. There is zero rust, and car is structurally as sound as they come. The frame is nice and tight, with no looseness or wobbliness. Expect minor wear and tear, but in general, this is a much nicer body than average for its age. It's quite rare to find original paint on a 1987. This is one reason I fell in love with it. The tires are decent enough but not perfect. We got two decent newish-used tires on the rear, and the fronts are passable in terms of inspection, but in the future some tires might give you more peace of mind. I still wouldn't mind driving it around, personally. Engine and drivetrain: Engine is nice and peppy, with lots of life left. At only 90k, that's nothing. The video included below demonstrates the smoothness. The sound on the video is not that great, but the engine sounds like what you would expect out of a healthy e30. Engine never overheats, temp stays at 40% or below, even with AC on. There are no leaks of any kind and no seepage. I don't wash engines. I never have. I don't believe in it. It does more damage than good in my experience. It's an engine. It is supposed to have some dirt. the pics show an unwashed engine. I haven't touched it up at all. It is quite impressive and dry. Also, we had the timing belt and water pump along with two hoses, changed about 500 miles ago as preventive maintenance. My ASE certifed, e30 nut friend did the work when he visited us for a couple days. Not needed, but better safe than sorry. Recently, after sitting, the "Thermo-time switch" started acting up. This controls the cold start valve that injects extra fuel for morning starts. Due to faulty part, about 75% of the time the car takes about 7-8 seconds of cranking in the cold morning to fire up instead of 2-3 seconds. When warm, it fires up immediately. (See video of instant warm startup). The part is about $140 new and can be changed in literal minutes. Used is available for much less. It never bothered us enough to change it out since this became out backup pleasure car, but I may change it before selling it. Transmission shifts up and down without harshness or shuddering. All in all, guys, its a car I trusted my wife to drive every day without worry. AC, auxillary, etc.: AC blows cold, see pic below... it shows a 36 degree Fahrenheit air vent. It's chilly. All the power options work, sunroof works, power windows work, and there are no issues with electrics or electronics, other than the original stereo - it makes a scratching and popping noise when turning the volume up. From what I've seen on these vintage german cars, it is the volume control knob on the radio itself. We wanted to put a CD player in, but I really do prefer the clean, original look of factory equipment. The radio and tape deck work fine once you dial in the proper volume and leave it. Interior: Boy, this is a nice interior. I just love the houndstooth cloth! It smells fresh and original, with no funk or nastiness or air freshener smell. I am a clean freak. The only blemishes are a small abraison on the driver's bolster, and two cracks on the dash. We drilled two tiny tiny holes at the end of the crack to prevent spreading. I do have a custom carpet dash mat that I would be happy to include with the car. It truly is a nice, nice interior, it belies its age and just feels good to be inside. The trunk is near perfect and original. Title / registration / inspection: Title is in my name, ready to be transferred to you. The car is registered and inspection through this month. Upon full payment, I will sign the title to you along with a bill of sale. I may keep the plates, so you might need a temp tag from the DMV, which is right up the street from me. Payment and deposit: Folks, in the past, too many buyers have not followed thru with their word. I ask for a $500 desposit immediately thru paypal after auction end to solidify the sale, and full payment within 3 days. If this is not possible for you, please contact me 24 hrs. BEFORE the auction end so we can come up with an idea. I'm a reasonable person, we can come to an agreement. This supercedes the eBay-stated 12 to 24 hours for deposit. Pickup / shipping: I can keep the car for you for a period of 14 days after sale. If you need longer, please contact me first. The car is very very healthy, but with any older or even newer car, things can happen. Even when I go out of town, I rent a car for peace of mind. With that said, a buyer once bought a 1974 Peugeot Diesel from us and drove it back to Canada with his 10 year old daughter without any issues. I'm not that brave. Any time I buy a car from out of state, I use a shipping carrier. Usually with $600-$800, they will deliver it to your door. I have someone I can recommend. I will help you facilitate, but cannot help you pay for it. I hope you understand. Please click on the links to see the videos. Apparently YouTube is working on getting this fixed. 360 Degree Walkaround - please note the carpets show up as a funny color sometimes but they are indeed clean, nice and gray. It's a pretty nice report. Vehicle rated above average and mileage is verified.
