1978 CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE HISTORY 1977 was Cadillac's 75th anniversary, and saw the introduction of the downsized De Ville coupes and sedans. These new cars featured a higher roofline, resulting in a vehicle that was over nine inches shorter, four inches narrower, and 1/2 ton lighter than the previous year, but with a larger trunk and more headroom and legroom. These were also the first De Villes ever to be marketed without fender skirts over the rear wheels. The 500 in3 V8 (which produced 190 horsepower) was replaced for 1977 by a 180-horsepower 425 in3 V8 variant of similar design. The 1978 models included a redesigned grille and hood ornament, 1978 saw slim, vertical tail lamps inset into chrome bumper end caps with built-in side marker lamps. The 1978 Cadillac Coupe Deville featured in this auction was special ordered on April 3rd 1978 at Emil Denemark Cadillac in Chicago Illinois. The car was delivered on May 12th. Complete documentation is included starting with the worksheet where the car was ordered, the window sticker and all documentation and repair records from that time until today! The original owner felt the car was special and only used it on long trips and special occasions. He drove it less than 3,000 miles a year. It has always been in covered storage. I purchased the car from the original owner when he retired from driving in 2006. The mileage was 80,151 then and is listed as actual on the Indiana title in my name. We have driven this car on many trouble free cross country trips. The current mileage is 95,345. I rarely use the car and have reluctantly decided to sell. One of the photos is a scan of the GM window sticker. CONDITION The Coupe Deville offered here runs and drives perfectly. The air is cold, the level ride, stereo and power antenna work flawlessly as does the Power windows, locks and seat. The clock and the green light on the mileage minder are inop. I believe these are the only flaws. It is mostly original paint including the pinstriping which shine nicely. I replaced the rear bumper fillers and repainted them. The original paint and vinyl top look great from 10 feet, but a close examination reveals some crazing, particularly on the hood. This can be seen in the photo of the hood ornament. They are only original once! The car was rustproofed when new and has no rust through. The pinchwelds on the door bottoms and decklid are perfect. The bumpers and most trim are excellent, but some of the exterior diecast chrome pieces are a bit pitted. There is a beautiful original interior. The dashpad has no cracks. The steering wheel has two small cracks depicted in one of the photos. The wood inlay in the wheel is perfect! The original carpets are a bit faded. There is a complete set of Cadillac shop manuals included in the sale! DETAILS This is a Beautiful original 1978 Cadillac Coupe Deville! This car is freshly serviced and is ready to drive anywhere with the Cruise Control set and the Cold Air blowing in your face.
