Vehicle Detail

Offered at NO RESERVE is our 1972 Porsche 914; a mid-engine RWD sports car built by Porsche of West Germany at the height of the sports-car era. Using components and designs developed by Volkswagen, they were considered to be an entry-level performance roadster that common enthusiasts could afford and love. While many were made, due to corrosion and natural decay, very few of these models exist to this day. This example has made its home in dry, western Texas and has been exceptionally well maintained, and is 100% RUST FREE! The car was originally a medium Green color, but was repainted to this stunning White/Black combination several years ago. It was a comprehensive repaint, all door jams and edges have been completely covered; only 2 areas show the old color and that is the cowl area where the gas tank and other components are contained, and the engine bay also retains it's green color. The paint job was a very even quality repaint, but there are small flaws here and there throughout the finish. There are spots where minor chips have been repaired, I have included photos of these spots in the photo-section below. The top is in excellent condition, with no stress marks, cracks, or damage; it was repainted black recently due to sun-fading, and since then the top is mostly stored in it's trunk-mounted brackets since this is really a car to be enjoyed with the open-air experience! The interior has been completely cleaned and the seats have been re-covered in OEM Porsche seat covers. The back padding behind both seats has two small areas where the vinyl has cracked from age/sunlight, these areas can be repaired by a vinyl-repair specialist for a minimal fee, but they've never bothered us enough to bother getting them repaired at this time. The gauges all work as they should and the aftermarket radio has been wired into the stock antennae and works perfectly. The dash top has a small wrinkle on the passenger-side that is shown in the photos below. The car has correct Momo Prototipo steering wheel, which really reflects the performance heritage of the car. The engine is the correct 1679cc 4 cylinder and always starts right away! It has had the Weber down-draft carburetor kit installed as well as an aftermarket inline fuel pump and they help keep the fuel flowing effortlessly. The car shifts and performs excellently and there's no performance issues with this drivetrain. We have just changed the oil, oil-filter, and installed new oil-cooler seals, but there is still a minor oil leak from the cooler itself, which might require replacement, and a new oil-cooler only costs $75 here on eBay. The exhaust system is still the stock Porsche unit and has no rust/damage and sounds fantastic. All the brakes and suspension components are in good shape, and we cannot find any components that are in need of repair or replacement. Cars runs/drives like a new car, and is a blast to drive around town. Reproduction Fuchs-Style wheels were installed along with new tires about 1000 miles ago, and the tread is like-new and they are in great condition! Overall, this is a car that runs/drives with no major issues or immediate needs. This a car that you could fly-in and drive home! There are small chips and defects in the paint, and the car has minor blemishes here/there, but overall is an exceptionally solid and fun sports car. If you're looking for a great example of Porsche's entry-level sports car, this is the one for you! We're offering the car at NO RESERVE and are selling it only because we're running out of indoor storage space and we'd hate to park such a beautiful car outside.
