Vehicle Detail
Purchased new for my Mother-in-law in 2001 now with 97,700 + miles. She used the car until last February when she wanted my son to have it as his first car, so I took it for service and maintenance in February. My wife was not in favor of giving him this car, but my son grew up in this car and really thought it would be cool to have it as his first car. I was given a "don't spend a dime over $2,500 or else" ultimatum by my wife We had the tires balanced and aligned, oil changed, and we had the following work done to the car to make it a daily driver: Front and rear brake job new pads and new wheel cylinders; resurfaced rotors ..Complete AC service, new AC compressor cycling pressure switch, driver side cooling motor replaced, and recharge and it blows COLD! New radiator fan assembly...New battery terminal..Lubed all fittings on steering linkages, ball joints, drive shaft and changed/checked all fluids..New timing cover gasket..new engine oil pan gasket..Brand new tinted windows with lifetime warranty..Headlamp cleaning with 5-year warranty from SAMS..Clean interior and nice dash and gauges with recently shampood seats and carpets. Oil change last week. I spent $2,500 and the car was a great daily driver for the past 4 months. My son and my MIL were happy. This week the car had a slight hesitation while driving and the engine light blinked on the highway hoping it might be the distributor or plugs. The mechanics hooked it up to the diagnostics and the compression in one of the cylinders is more than 20% off...they said it's going bad but driveable with the hesitation intermittent. The engine light has remained on, and my wife says we are not putting any more money into the car. I'm not a mechanic, but one would know how to fix the cylinder or issues for the parts cost and personal labor. I can't spend any more to have it fixed as the estimate was at least a grand. If you know what to do or have connections this is a great car with $2,500 already put into it. I am not going to get my $2,500 back no doubt, but whatever I get back will keep me married for another 25 years!
