1982 380 SL Mercedes Benz Beautiful car! Over $14,000 has been spent in the last 7000 miles, most of that money has been spent in the last 1500 miles to restore this exquisite classic to the reliable of a daily driver. This car was in excellent condition when I purchased it in 2013. It had been in storage for over 5 years and as most people know, not driving a car is harder on it than driving it regularly. So before putting it on the road I decided to take it to my mechanic (a restoration specialist) and have him go through it from top to bottom. He was given CARTE BLANCHE on both time and money to make it a car that I could drive anywhere without a fear of breakdown. He took almost a year to turn it into the reliable auto he know I expected. The restoration included a complete rebuild on the upper engine, including all new valves, value springs, cam, and replacement of the original single cam chain with a new dual chain. This was done 5000 miles before I acquired the car. Since I have owned the car these are the items I have had fixed or replaced: new Michelin tires, new brake lines, new disc brakes and pads, new shocks, new gas lines, new air conditioner compressor, dryer, new water pump, new radiator (not refurbed new), complete new stainless steel exhaust system including new catalytic converter , new distributor, new ignition wires, new spark plugs , all new belts and hoses, new battery, brand new Pioneer stereo radio (all the bell and whistles, including bluetooth), new windshield wipers, the gas tank was removed, purged and replaced with new in tank fuel filter, the transmission was serviced, the list goes on……This car does not use or leak a drop of oil. Mechanically, I can't imagine a car being more sound. After I had all of the mechanicals brought to top notch, I decided to remove the few scratches and door dings it had and have it completely repainted. This was done last summer. My wife and I recently returned from a Memorial Weekend 700 mile round trip to Tulsa averaging almost 20 mpg. The car drives like a DREAM!The current odometer reading on this car is a little over 115,000 miles. This car originally sold for over $38,000 new which is close to $100,000 in today's dollars. They were built to drive 250,000 to 300,000 miles plus without a need for a major overhaul, so there are years and years of trouble free miles left in this car. It is meant to be driven! I have included a copy of the Car Fax report on the car when I bought it, before I made any of the above mentioned improvements. You would think the point rating would be even higher today? I don't get it? OH WELL! It is a jewel and I hate to sell it but I also own a 28’ “Offshore” Cheoy Lee sailboat that has been neglected. My wife says one or the other has got to go. I have owned my sailboat for over 15 years, so I have a greater attachment to it. Whoever buys this car will be a very happy new owner. Would this car win first place at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, NO, but will it win the envy and admiration of your neighbors, family and friends, YOU BET! Everywhere I drive it people comment on how it looks like new. This beautiful car should give its new owner years of trouble free service and a lot of pride of ownership. I continue to drive my car locally, so the mileage may vary slightly from what is listed . The history report pictured is the report from when I originally purchased the car.
