Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 2003 Honda XR650L Dual Sport. I always wanted an XR, specifically a 650, but I was always concerned about them being so high sprung that I wouldn't be able to touch the ground for the kind of riding I wanted to do. As I poked around for a lowered KLR or even an XR this bike popped up. The original owner had done just what I feared I would do and rode the bike about 900 miles before tipping it over and spraining his ankle. After the tip the owner just parked the bike and ordered a brand new Honda tank since the stocker was dented. The tank was installed and the bike was up for sale. I picked up the bike and rode it for a while....thinking to myself "Wow, this is a really neat bike, just not very fast. I recalled the utility of the bike and didn't really get too discouraged. Once it got cold I serviced the bike, put on a wider Dunlop rear tire, changed the oil, filter, plug, and air filter (Uni Filter brand). I pulled the carb and gave it a complete cleaning and installed a Sigma jet kit and modified slide. After the tune up I didn't get a chance to ride the bike because it as so cold, but I decided to add a true HID headlight since the stock unit left a little bit to be desired in projection. I finally picked up a Clarke 4.7 gallon fuel tank as it always seemed I was filling the old girl up after each ride the previous summer. I added a charcoal canister/emissions delete and block off kit to clean up the shifter side of the bike. For Christmas I got the last piece of the puzzle....a DG slip on pipe! Spring came along and I fired the bike up with the tune specs provided in the Sigma kit and I was absolutely astounded when I got on the bike for a ride. The throttle response was immediate and gave so much snap, I wondered why Honda would hamstring such an amazing bike with such a lousy tune. The bike was fun to ride before, but it literally makes me grin every time I get on it when I hear that pipe bark. The HID headlight made me realize that the stocker was like having an old chrome Rayovac flashlight taped to my handlebars. The bike has the scuffs listed above and has surface rust on the header and a couple of bolts. The bike has low miles and runs like a top, I just don't have the area to ride where I used to so she's up for sale. I have all stock parts, including the original tank and shrouds, as well as both keys and the tool kit. PA title in hand ready for the next adventure rider! If you have any questions, drop me a line and I'll do my best to answer them for you.
