The acceleration is strong and the shifting is smooth. BMW really was ahead of it's time with this beautifully designed fuel injected motorcycle. The engine is 987 ccs of responsive power that really screams to be ridden! The Corbin seat is very comfortable and makes those long rides very enjoyable! The hard sided bags and the trunk provide plenty of room to carry your gear if you decide to go on an excursion for a few days. The odometer and speedometer work really well and it shows 49,857 miles. I have seen from time to time where the speedo and odo stop working for a mile or two but generally they start working again fairly quickly. Might be something that would be an easy fix. Have noted on the forums that this is a fairly common occurrence. I would say the problem happens less than 5% of the time. Overall mileage on the bike could be a little bit higher due to the occasional glitches in the odo but the bike does not reflect significantly more miles than what it is registering. I am totally amazed that this motorcycle is so clean and runs so well! The tires appear to be nearly new and are Michelins so you know that they will last a long time! The paint color is called "Dolomite Gray" and is absolutely stunning! It is 30 years old so it does have some chips and bumps here and there but it does look really good! Fairing is in better than fair condition and is a great asset when cruising at freeway speeds. It does have some cracks in the fiberglass from some bumps over the years but it has all been touched up and looks pretty good.From 15 feet away, most people will not notice the cracks in the fairing. (See photos) From 4 feet away, you can see it but it still doesn't look too bad. I think most people recognize that a 30 year old bike is going to have some character. The bike runs really good and cranks right up. Shifting is very smooth both on acceleration and deceleration. The shaft drive is quiet and really purrs! I have had so many people stop and ask me about this bike. They can't believe it was built in 1985. The bike has a very small oil drip but nothing major. Smokes when first starting it up if it has been stored using the side kickstand rather than the center stand. However, it goes away pretty much immediately. I have seen no evidence of burning smoke otherwise. From what I have seen on the forums, this is common for the K100. Somebody is going to get a really sweet bike!
