1960 Mercedes-Benz 190b Ponton (W121-010) For Sale: 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190b Ponton Sedan The much loved 190 series Mercedes-Benz “Ponton” Sedan were built in two editions from between 1956 and 1961. In total 89,808 190 Pontons with the Inline 4-Cylinder 1.9L engine left the factory. The second series, 190b, were built in the last three years of production with a total output of 28,463 cars. They are the rarer of the two series and have become quite desirable over the later fin-tail sedans. The body style is similar to that of the 220S with a very 50s front end. The body lines, bumpers, chrome ringed headlights and turn signals are evocative of the 190SL and its bigger brother, the 300SL Gullwing. This car was probably assembled in late 1959 and sold new in California in early 1960. It lived there under the care of three known owners until the early 2000s. This Ponton was imported to Canada sometime before 2006 and taken off the road and stored a few years later. The previous owner always intended to get the car back on the road, but never found the time to do so. It starts, stops and runs well. It appears to have had at least one re-paint and the interior appears to have been re-dyed or freshened up at some point as well. Cosmetically there are a few flaws in the paint and chrome, but no major corrosion. It is a very honest surviving driver condition 190b. We believe the true mileage on this 190b to be just 116,968 miles. This 190b Ponton comes complete with correct Mercedes-Benz Type 190b Owners Manual, Type 190b parts Catalog “A” from 1959, Becker Europa operators guide, Becker Radio Service address book, Becker Europa Warranty Book, Mercedes-Benz service booklet with service stamps from 1960 to 1966, two Pamphlets from purchasing tires from Michelin (1970 and 1977), a Shell Battery warranty pamphlet from 1985, Spare Keys, Jack, Tire Iron, and Spare wheel. From documents with the car we’ve been able to piece together the following ownership history: 1) Sold new at Mercedes-Benz at 6465 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, California.*Original owner (not sure if it is Joan Tobias) from 1960 to at least 1966 - with records noted for servicing at the original selling dealership in Hollywood.
