Vehicle Detail

The car has an 8 cylinder engine with a 2 bbl carburetor. It is a standard shift on the column. It does have the overdrive that is activated by the accelerator. The breather and air filter are missing. The gas tank is very rusted, but I still have it. There is a plastic tank in the trunk. The original steering wheel is gone, I put an aftermarket one on it. I have the bench seat, but I currently have a bucket seat installed in it, I have a brand new 6 piece glass set to replace all of the side glass on the driver and passenger side. My plan was to restore the vehicle, but it is a much bigger project than I imagined. There is a good bit of rust underneath, but the car is sound. I dove it approximately 90 miles to my house when I bought it in September. I also have a complete service manual that goes with it. UPDATE 2/05/15 For those with additional questions, I am going to tell you everything that I know. First of all. I am a Craigslist junkie and this is my fist ever attempt at selling on eBay. My daughter decided that she wanted an old car to drive to school when she turns 16 (May of this year). Last Summer I started looking at old cars on Craigslist. I have never restored a car and I have little more than a basic knowledge of cars. My budget was up to $5,000 with a plan to spend as little as possible. I looked at several old cars over a couple of month period and felt good about the Studebaker that I bought. It had rust on it but no where near as much as most of the cars I looked at. The guy took me on a test drive and I was very impressed with how it ran and the shape it was in for a 1957 car. The only two major problems at that time was that the driver window and vent window was cracked. The other problem was that the gas tank was not being used and there was a boat gas tank in the trunk. I bought the car and drove home which was about 2 hours away without any issues. The first thing that I did was to pull all of the wheels and check for greased bearings and brake issues. This is where my first problem came. Some of the studs are reverse thread. I figured that out after I broke one off. I drilled it out and replaced it. I also removed the old gas tank. I still have it. I do not know if it could be repaired or not but it is in pretty rough shape. I looked for a new one but could not find one. I saw where I could get a fuel cell from Summit for a couple hundred dollars. This is where my first setback came. My wife insists that I only put original parts on the car. I don't think that is a big deal. I decided to put the fuel tank issue on hold. The next thing that I did was to remove the driver side window and door panel. I still have both and they are fine. I ordered a brand new 6 piece set of glass for both sides of the car. I have not even unwrapped the glass as of yet. About 4 or 5 weeks ago I my daughter wanted to go for a ride in Squiggy (as she named it, you know like Laverne and Shirley). After a few trips to Kroger, I let her see how it would be to drive it. Lets just say, I don't think an old straight shift with manual steering is going to be the dream car that she hoped for. We decided to take it to Church on Sunday and that was when I found out that apparently I failed to completely tighten the lugs on the front driver side. One of the new pics I posted shows the damage that ensued as well as the temporary solution so that I could get the door to open and close. That was when we decided that it might be best to start fresh with something a little newer. I posted the car on Craigslist and did not feel very good about the overall responses. At that point I moved to the next level which involved removing the front bench seat and steering wheel. Neither of these items were conducive to my driving the car due to my current physical out of shapeness. I still have the bench seat and it is in good condition. The steering wheel was not so lucky. Long story, lesson learned, the original steering wheel is gone. I do have the horn assembly and center cap. I am not in a position that I have to sell the car an I am certainly not going to take a huge loss. I have put in a reserve amount that is several hundred dollars less than I have invested so far. That generously accounts for my mistakes with the lug nuts and the steering wheel episode. If you have the time and the room for a project, this may be the car for you. If you are looking for a deal of a lifetime, this aint it. If I don't get the reserve amount, I am going to see what else I can fix, replace or break. If you would like to see the car, email me and I will let you come look at it and take it for a drive around the neighborhood. However, I am not going to violate the agreement that I made with eBay. You will still need to bid on the car through the process. If the car does not sell for the reserve amount, then you can look on Craiglist in a few months. If you see it there, then you know I am ready to get my garage back. If not, then that means I decided to keep it after all.
