Vehicle Detail
For Sale is this 1970 SS 454 El Camino. It has major rust issues. It has its original VIN Stamped LS 5 engine with many of its original components like the heads, carb and alternator. It may not have its original transmission, I could not find a tag or VIN Stamp on it. It has its original rear end that is unique to the 454, no CRV stamp though the axle tubes are too rusty. It is the earliest 454 El Camino in the LS5 and LS6 registries and very well could be the earliest one produced. Build date is approximated 12-17-1969 based on the VIN compared to known early 454 Chevelle's. I own one of these early 1970 454 Chevelles, mine built on 12-15-1969 with build sheet and window sticker to verify, so I've done some research on these early 454 cars. There are no more than 6 to 10 earlier 454 Chevelles than this 70 454 El Camino. I do not think the radiator is original to the car, it has the wrong tag on it as far as I know. The original bucket seats are not with the car and it has a set of high back ford buckets in it now. The console and the rest of the interior are original to the car. It has the tilt / sport steering wheel. It has the 5500 RPM tach dash. It is an A/C car. It has the map light on the mirror. It has an under dash washer fluid indicator light. It has a remote drivers mirror. It has front bumper guards. It is a Cowl Induction car. It has the under hood light. It has the early style Cowl Induction hood which is not rusted. On Jan-27-15 at 21:07:05 PST, seller added the following information: There are a few questions that have been asked consistently about this car. 1. Does this car run and does the car run and drive or does the engine turn over or is it frozen up? No, the car does not run and drive. I can not say how many years it has been off of the road. This El Camino was a one owner car for its whole life. When the owner original owner passed a neighbor who knew the car as a kid to adult bought it and sold it to me. The engine does turn over without effort. I made 26 pulls on the crank shaft tonight with a ratchet, at least 4 full revs of the crank. No problem, the engine is free. I also got out my mirror and flashlight and looked at the numbers on the distributor, they are 1111963 8k9. 2. The car looks pretty good, what are the major rust issues that you refer to? The frame is rusted and needs replaced. The floors from the smugglers box back need replaced, this includes the bed floor, quarters inner and outer. The floors in the cab area are bad at the outer edges. The top of this car survived and is in very good shape. As far as the under side of the car, imagine the worst case scenario. If you have bid on this car and have any doubts about your ability to restore it please cancel your bids now.
