Vehicle Detail
Mechanics notes; Inspected crank shaft rear main bearing for leaks, resealed all external leaks. After removing oil pan-cm head- valve cover side plate and oil transfer pipe the rear main bearing drain tube was ok but the crank shaft end play was .025, the maximum being .004 to.007 which allows too much oil to enter the rear main oil drain tube and some oil will come out on the ground. The engine needs rebuilding. Piston rings were installed to reduce the blowby . The engine valves were worn beyond use and were replaced as well as guides and springs. The valve seats were also ground. The engine piston bores were worn so that the rings had to be cut down to the bore of each cylinder. The exhaust manifold and intake manifold were resurfaced. The engine was reassembled and the valves adjusted. A new carburetor was installed, sparks plugs were replaced and points and timing adjusted. The wiring was repaired in the ignition and the ignition switch was replaced. The wiring harness was moved to the correct positioning. The junction block cover was replaced. The engine was started and the timing adjusted and the head was re-torqued. The engine starts easily and turns off with the ignition key and all external oil leaks are stopped. The rear main seal leaks a little but it needs to be machined to stop it completely. All four shocks were installed, arm and attaching links and hardware and adjusted. Lights were repaired to turn on and off. The light switch rod was worn beyond use. The steering box was and column were removed and a new switch rod was installed. A headlight switch was also installed. The horn is shorted out and not repaired. The headlights have the wrong reflectors and bulbs. The wheel bearings were packed and the brakes inspected. All wheel brakes are are ok. The emergency brake band is missing from the left rear wheel. The one e-brake is ok for now but should be fixed to be perfect. Repositioned the front motor mount with proper springs and set engine at right angle 3 degrees to the rear. Recommend correct floor board be installed . The boards in the car are marine grade plywood and are weak. All fluid levels have been checked and installed torque wheels. The gas tank gauge float was sunk in the tank ad gauge sight glass had turned yellow and was unusable. This was replaced and reassembled and now is working properly. .... This is an excellent car for the beginning collector and fun to drive.
