UP FOR SALE IS MY 1971 DATSUN 240Z. I AM SELLING THE CAR BECAUSE I (READ MY FIANCEE) HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT ONE TWO SEATER VEHICLE IS ENOUGH, I ALSO HAVE A 93 300ZX CONVERTIBLE, LOVE Z CARS!. I do want to mention that I am advertising the car locally, so if you have an interest bid or purchase soon. I am relisting the car because it was bid upon and sold and then the buyer never paid or would even return my contact attempts, really upsetting. Unbelievable, I "sold" the item again to someone who took the Buy It Now option so they could come "look" at the car and not have someone else buy it before they could...unbelievable. See my rant below about that experience. If you have "0" buying or purchasing with Ebay, please don't bother bidding on this car. If you want to look" at cars please go to CarMax, they have lots of cars you can "look" at there. THIS CAR HAS BEEN PARKED IN AN ENVIRONMENTALLY CONTROLLED WAREHOUSE FOR THE LAST 9 YEARS, THE TITLE REFLECTS THIS FACT. I DID TAKE THE TITLE TO THE SCDMV AND THEY SAID THE TITLE IS CLEAR AND THE BUYER JUST NEEDS TO SIGN THEIR NAME. THE CAR HAS A TEN YEAR OLD PAINT JOB THAT STILL LOOKS GREAT OTHER THAN THE FEW REPAIRED SPOTS WHERE THE COLOR DOES NOT MATCH PERFECTLY. THIS CAR HAS ALL THE KEYS, EVEN THE ONE FOR THE GLOVE BOX. THE CAR ALSO HAS THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE COVER AND IT REALLY LOOKS LIKE THE ORIGINAL BRIDGESTONE MADE IN JAPAN SPARE IN BRAND NEW CONDITION. THE CAR ALSO HAS ALL THE TIRE TOOLS STILL IN THE ORIGNAL SOFT CASE, PRETTY NICE CAR. THE CAR HAS THE ORIGINAL ENGINE (SEE PICTURES). IT NOW HAS A 5-SPEED VERSUS THE STOCK 4-SPEED, PERSONALLY I'D RATHER HAVE A 5-SPEED. THE BODY IS STRAIGHT AND ALL PANELS LINE UP LIKE FROM THE FACTORY. THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR IS LIKE NEW OTHER THAN THE REAR CARPET NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, ITS JUST OLD, THE CAR STARTS RIGHT UP AND RUNS GREAT, AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES THE ENGINE BAY IS VERY NICE AND CLEAN. THE ENGINE HAS JUST HAD A TOTAL TUNE-UP, POINTS/CONDENSER, DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR WIRES AND PLUGS; ALSO AN OIL/FILTER CHANGE. THE TIRES ARE BRAND NEW AS IS THE BATTERY. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO ALL THE GEARS AND DOES NOT MAKE ANY SORTS OF "NOISES". THE TRUNK AND BATTERY BOX DO NOT HAVE ANY SIGNS OF RUST. CAR HAS RUST IN JUST A FEW AREAS. THE HATCH LEDGE HAD ONE SMALL SPOT ¼” X 3/4” WHICH HAS BEEN REMOVED AND REPAIRED, SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. EACH FENDER HAD A RUST SPOT ¼” X 1/2” WHERE A FACTORY BRACKET IS ATTACHED UNDERNEATH IT, THESE SPOTS WERE REPAIRED. THE PASSENGER DOOR HAD A SLIGHT DENT, NOT RUST, WHICH WAS REPAIRED; IT LOOKED SOMEONE NAILED IT WHEN OPENING ANOTHER CAR DOOR IN A PARKING LOT...IDIOTS. THE PASSENGER FLOOR LOOKS AS THOUGH THE A/C CONDENSER HOSE MUST HAVE LEAKED IN THE PAST AND GOTTEN TO THE FOOR BECAUSE IT HAS HAD A NEW FLOOR PAN INSTALLED, WHICH IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND ATTACHED TO GOOD SURROUNDING METAL. THIS SAME LEAKING LOOKS TO HAVE CAUSED SOME RUST UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT, THIS HAS ALSO BEEN REPAIRED. THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR LOOKS FINE. THERE WAS A SLIGHT BIT OF SURFACE RUST AROUND THE HATCH GLASS AND NEAR THE 240Z BADGE THAT WAS REMOVED AND REPAINTED. THE DRIVERS SIDE HAS A LITTLE RUST UNDERNEATH THE CAR NEAR THE SEAT AREA AND A LITTLE ON THE FRONT FRAME RAIL, EASILY REMOVED AND REPAIRED AT THIS POINT. ENGINE BAY FRAME RAILS ARE STRAIGHT AND SOLID OTHER THAN THE PORTION THAT WAS AFFECTED BY THE PASSENGER FLOOR LEAK AREA. THE SAD TRUTH IS THESE CARS HAVE RUST PROBLEMS AND YOU JUST HAVE TO STAY AHEAD OF IT, THIS CAR HASN'T HAD ANY ATTENTION THE LAST 9 YEARS SO IT JUST NEEDS CATCHING UP. THE PASSENGER RAIL DOES HAVE A TWO INCH SPOT WITH AN UPWARD INDENTION WHERE PROBABLY SOMEONE PLACED THE JACK INCORRECTLY. THE RADIATOR SUPPORT AND GAS LID AREAS ARE STRAIGHT AND SOLID. THE CAR DOES NOT APPEAR THAT IT HAS EVER BEEN WRECKED. NO SIGN OF FRONT END OR REAR END DAMAGE. THE RIGHT REAR STEEL BUMPER DOES HAVE A SLIGHT BEND WHERE IT WAS TAPPED AT ONE TIME. LOOKS LIKE A WOODEN MALLET WOULD BEND IT RIGHT BACK. I HOPE DIDNT MISS ANYTHING. WITH ALL THIS SAID, I THINK THE CAR IS A NICE EXAMPLE AND IN FAIR CONDITION. COULD BE A LOCAL SHOW CAR BUT NOT PERFECT, IT DOES LOOK AWESOME AND DRAWS ATTENTION IN A GOOD WAY: ) NOW THE THINGS I WOULD REPLACE IF I WAS KEEPING THE CAR. I AM LISTING PRICES I FOUND RIGHT HERE ON EBAY. ONE STEERING RUBBER BOOT, TORN $19 HATCH STRUT, TYPICAL $31 HATCH GASKET, IT'S JUST OLD $35 BRAKE BOOSTER, WORKS BUT LEAKS $100 NEW SHOCKS, SPRINGY! $109 (SET OF FOUR) REAR CARPET, JUST OLD ~$100 EXHAUST PIPE, WORKS FINE BUT JUST OLD ~$150 $1000 PAYPAL DEPOSIT DUE 24 HRS FROM END OF AUCTION. BALANCE DUE IN 5 DAYS FROM END OF AUCTION. CASH OR WIRE TRANSFER ONLY. SHIPPING IS BUYERS RESPONSIBILITY, I WILL OF COURSE MEET THE CARRIER AND HELP WITH GETTING IT SAFELY LOADED UP. On Dec-21-14 at 06:31:18 PST, seller added the following information: I just added a picture of the pillar plate and engine block which confirms this is an engine number matching car. So Christmas day I sold this car to the Buy It Now winner. I get an email that says “I went ahead and DID THE "Buy It Now" option so no one else could buy it before we come and look at it”. I had a couple thoughts at that time: You just bought the car, why are you saying you want to look at it, then I saw his "0" rating for buying and selling on Ebay.I had 170 watchers and 5000 views of the car, serious people were serious about purchasing it, why oh why would you purchase now if you just want to look at the car?If you want to kick tires go to CarMax, I’m sure they have a Wonderful White Automatic Prius that is probably perfect for you. It is apparent I should help people understand if this car is right for them before they waste more of my time bidding on it. If you think choking a carburetor is cruel and unusual, see #3 aboveIf you think a master and slave cylinder is a racial slur used by auto mechanics see item 3If you think the brake booster is a specialized car seat that allows the child to brake the car..OMG K see 3!If you think points and condenser is something your professor made and a special milk your grandma cooks pies with…see #3If you have just noticed peach fuzz starting to grow on your face, see #3If you think the tire references 50, 60 and 70 refers to years the tires were made…threeIf you have never taken a trip with a gas station map…3 you goIf you think all cars have a button you push and then you go, see #3If SAE and metric means nothing to you, please for your own sake, see #3If the simplicity of a 70s era straight six doesn’t give you a warm fuzzy, 3333333333333333333 Ok, this is a 43 year old car, it is before cell phones/computers, it doesn’t have magic gizmos, it tends to be hands on. It doesn’t have a computer socket to tell a useless “mechanic” what’s wrong with it. It has real gauges that you use to interpret how your engine is feeling. If what you really want deep down in your heart is a quiet, completely automated people conveyor that actually talks to you and tells you things like “your door is ajar” and “dings” when you leave your lights on or has a camera to show you what turning of your head would have accomplished, then quite honestly you will not be happy with this car. The romance of an old car is a really cool thing but it doesn’t come free. On Jan-02-15 at 06:51:30 PST, seller added the following information: Hi everyone, I am a firm believer in Karma and also feeling the holiday spirit. I am also very happy with the selling price of the car so I am going to purchase all of the items I listed as things I would replace if I was keeping the car (other than the exhaust) and place them in the car. If the buyer wants I can just put a personal check (it wont bounce: ) for $400 in the glove box in lieu of the actual parts. I wanted to do this since I have heard from a couple of potential buyers in the UK and Netherlands that have said purchasing parts can be tough in their neck of the woods. With that said, once whomever purchases the car I will either order all the parts or put the check in the glove box. If you want the parts it will probably take a week to get all the parts here before shipping the car. I heard from a bunch of you appreciating my little rant and the "3"s. To the guys defense that Purchased Now and then backed out, he was a very young Navy guy home on leave for a short period during the holidays before shipping back out. He loved the car but wasn't wanting to take the time to replace the brake booster before taking off to see friends and family up and down the eastern seaboard. I had told him that I personally would not plan a 600 to 1000 mile trip on a car straight out of storage and certainly not one with a questionable brake booster during freezing rain and heavy holiday traffic. When he backed out I got a little angry and said some things I shouldn't have but later when I calmed down I text him apologizing for my outburst and hoping him the best of luck. So Kevin, no bad feelings and I hope you stay safe as you serve our country, there will always be time to buy one of these great cars and hopefully next time you will have the time to enjoy it, half the fun with these cars is tinkering with them.
