Vehicle Detail

Take a look at this beautiful 1942 Script Willys Slat Grill WWII Jeep, serial number 109280, date of delivery January 6th, 1942 to Hawaii. One month after Pearl Harbor was attacked!! This jeep has undergone a overhaul over the past year. It is perfect for parades, re-inactors, and collectors. This jeep was rescued from obscurity on a plantation in Hawaii for 50+ years. It was found on Craigslist by Jay in Napa California and shipped to San Francisco in mid 2013. Its first time off the islands in 72 years. I purchased the jeep from Jay in Decemeber of 2013. The body on this jeep has been repaired extensively using parts from another Tub and lots of new metal has been installed, (ie. new floor, quarter panels etc) as the salty air and Hawaiian mud took a major toll. The tub had been modified with doors installed and the fuel tank relocated to the rear of the jeep (see photos of original listing in link below to see original condition). as well as a sheet metal skin covering up the rotting original metal. All savable original parts were removed, restored and reinstalled. Anything missing was replaced by NOS if available or Repro items. Take a look at all the photos… I did a lot of research to find the original use of this jeep. The original frame number and the original (recovered) hood number helped a lot. It has been repainted with Markings from its original unit the 745th Military Police. included are photos of the jeep as it was found in Hawaii in 2013 as well as a photo from Hawaii during WWII of this jeep with a soldier in it. Frame: was in good shape it was pressure washed and wire wheeled to take off the caked on mud and muck from being a plantation jeep for years, and repainted OD Green.. It has the original frame gussets and willys frame tag the bumper is new. The engine hasn’t been removed from the jeep in 70 years.. it has a 1944 Ford GPW engine that was installed by the army on location in Hawaii. This was common as Ford began building jeeps based on the Willys design in mid 1942. Chassis and Drive Train: All original Willys drive train except the engine. T84 Tranny, transfer case, axles, leaf springs front and rear, all are original to this jeep. Only the Replacement 1944 GPW engine is not original from the factory to this jeep. But it has called this jeep home for 70 years. New brakes lines and hoses had to be installed as the originals were corroded and would not hold brake pressure, rebuilt original master cylinder, rebuilt original wheel cylinders. Rebuilt steering box and drag link with original steering wheel. One Original bumperette with license inspection tab from Hawaii still in place (never removed from frame), original pintle hook. 4 NOS Sears 6 Ply tires on repainted non-combat rims. The spare is an original solid rim and a vintage NDT tire for display purposes. Engine: 1944 Ford GPW replacement engine installed in Hawaii in 1944 by the army. It has excellent compression and oil pressure. Purrs like a kitten. Professionally rebuilt W-O carburetor, rebuilt fuel pump, 6 volt Generator, new coil, new wiring, new battery, origina temp. gauge, original ammeter, new fuel gauge and sender, new fuel lines, new plugs and wires. Original radiator and cap. Body: Restored tub with lots of new metal, restored fenders, restored windshield (original glass), new hood. Original driver’s seat with split tubing and Original passenger seat with split tubing and new rear seat, new fuel tank, new top bows, brackets and hardware, new canvas seats. , repro. shovel and axe, repro. Slat grille style air cleaner, rebuilt authentic blackout lights, rebuilt headlights and aftermarket tail-lights with wwii lens covers. Misc: All new electric wiring, new headlight switch works properly. Wiring harness and switches modified to work for regular driving and parades and re-inacting – not for 1940’s war conditions. Hood Numbers are originals pulled from under many layers of paint. Vehicle has a valid transferable CA Title in previous owners name. Mileage is not accurate. The only thing left to do with this vehicle is have fun driving it and possibly outfit it with some WWII paraphernalia. Vehicle is sold as is where is – no warranty. Shipping costs are responsibility of buyer. Will work with buyer to arrange shipping (i.e drive it to local shipper or Port of Seattle.) No sales outside the US. Non-refundable $500 deposit via Paypal due immediately upon close of auction, balance in Cash, Cashiers Check or Wire Transfer upon pick up or prior to shipping. No checks, no trades, no scams. This Jeep will sell as have my previous restorations, don't let it slip away. You can own a real piece of American History. Most WWII jeeps out there don’t have this provenance. As this jeep was in Hawaii all its life until recently, and the hood numbers are the originals… Take a look at all the photos… Close your eyes and imagine yourself driving this piece of American History. Can you say Conversation Piece!!IF YOU ARENT SATISIFIED WITH YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS THIS YEAR... BUY YOUR OWN PRESENT!!!Below are links to ewillys.com to show where the jeep came from.Original Honolulu listing http://www.ewillys.com/2013/05/07/1941-slat-grille-mb-kau-hi-1000/Original San Fransisco listing http://www.ewillys.com/2013/12/18/1942-slat-grille-san-francisco-ca-5000/ On Dec-23-14 at 18:22:43 PST, seller added the following information: Just to state how rare this jeep is there were 25,808 Slat Grill Jeeps produced out of the over 650,000 Jeeps produced during WWII (that means that only 4% were Slat Grills) If you estimate that around 5% of all jeeps survived until today that puts the number of Slat Grill Willy Jeeps somewhere around 1250 Slat Grills left today, of that very very few have Provenance. Next to the MA, GP and Bantam prototype jeeps, this is one of the Rarest Jeeps around. On Dec-26-14 at 13:51:56 PST, seller added the following information: Made a mistake in the DOD its 1-5-42 not 1-6-42... I also added some other photos of the jeep.. including photos of the frame tag, engine replacement/rebuild tag, and a photo of original hood number being uncovered. On Dec-27-14 at 11:46:11 PST, seller added the following information: I have recently been asked if the jeep comes with a canvas top... it does not but I can get one and install it if the winner would like for $350..
