Vehicle Detail
Continuing health problems dictate the sale of my 1961 Corvair Rampside truck project. This truck was a California truck and came without a heating system. First few pix are before any work was done on the truck. Pix of completed rear gate at end of pix stream. Body has some typical rust in lower panels, but much less than rampsides from the East Coast and North west. I have all necessary metal replacement body panels where significant damage repair is required. (right rear quarter panel for example). Other repair panel parts. Brakes have rebuilt master cylinder and slave cylinder. Shoes are in good shape. Glass is all there with no cracks front, side and rear. There are 4 doors, and at least two are in very good condition and have been disassembled and sand blasted. One door has not been disassembled or blasted. The side ramp has been sandblasted and lower rusty panel area has been cut out. Interior of the lower part of the ramp is in good shape. Repair metal is provided to weld into the lower area of the ramp. All ramp latches for side and front are there and working and there are a couple of spare latches and some latch parts. Doors are completely removed from body, and ramps are completely removed. Special NOTE: I spent a lot of money having the rear gate completely worked by a body shop. It is finished through primer. I have another rear gate that is very rough that is included in the sale. I also have an excellent condition front clip in red and white includes the top of the instrument panel and half of the widow posts. The bed interior vertical panels and corner panels have been removed and sand blasted. (This truck does not need that clip). Lots of rusty fasteners have been removed inside the bed. Bed floor has surface rust, but as far as I can tell, no rust through. There are several instrument clusters with keys that can be installed. I have a complete rampside hot air ducting and control system that came from another truck that could be installed by the new owner. I have overhauled the two carbs and have run the engine that is in the truck. Compression is in the 120 to 130 range on all 6 cylinders. Alternator type charger with external regulator works. I've not used fuel from the tank, but used an improvised fuel system for testing the engine. One of the carbs now spits fuel out the top, so engine cannot be run. A video of the running engine is available if desired. This truck is set up with dual exhaust that is pretty much rotted out. I have two new Harley Davidson mufflers that are included in the sale. The clutch works, the brakes work and E brake works and the transmission shifts. Other than that, the rest is unknown. The front and rear bumpers are in good chrome condition. Included in the sale are many engine parts for an additional 145 80 hp engine. A good camshaft has been donated by another corvair owner and I will pass that along at no charge. Also, at least 6 matched piston cylinder combinations that have not been separated, but inspection of them looks good as useable. Several more piston and cylinders are included in the sale. There is a crankshaft that has been re-ground and is in a sealed container. Two full 80 hp cases that appear to be in good condition. These are the rear oil access type for FC's. There are Three 145 heads, one NOS, and two others, both of which need work. The NOS head has a new set of intake valves that are not installed yet. I'm including all necessary original rampside shop manuals for body and engine assembly and also as a freebee, the excellent set of corvair manuals from Bob Helt. Many light buckets, badges, logo's etc to build a complete decent truck or show truck if you so choose. I've spent a lot of money and man hours getting the truck to this point. The fun point, but I've not got the health to continue. So, this is a no reserve auction. However, the initial bid price is set based upon my costs of having the rear gate completed through primer by a pro body shop and upon the decent starting point condition of the truck for restoration. In short, you are getting a complete rolling truck that has had most of the paint removed and all of the Bondo, and will come with good repair panels for necessary body work. The cam, crank for an additional engine and the documentation were donated to me and I can't in clear conscience "charge" the new buyer for them, though I include them in the sale. The truck will need to be winched onto the buyers trailer. The truck is currently under tarp and I can store it here at my house for several months if need be, but payment in full will need to be made. Scammers: I have dealt with all of the gimmicks. Go back into your holes and find a sucker.
