Vehicle Detail
I bought this truck in North Dakota in 2005 and hauled it home. It had sat in a building untouched since the early 70's. The guy I bought the pickup from had inherited the vehicle from the relative who built it in the late 60s.I rebuilt the master cylinder, slave cylinder, and wheel cylinders. I rebuilt the carburetors, put a new water pump and fuel filter on, and got the turn signals and lights in working order. It took me a while to get it on the road, but I drove it around from 2007 to 2011. In 2011, the 3 speed transmission that was in it gave out. I had already had plans to build the truck into something that didn't look like a rat rod, so I pulled the motor and transmission out in preparation for the build. It has sat ever since, I haven't made the time to do much besides collecting parts for it. This will make a really neat project, or you could leave it as a "ratish" sort of vehicle if that's your thing. The motor, transmission, and rear end are all Mopar. It would be neat to leave it this way. The motor is from a 1957 Plymouth Fury with the factory dual quad setup. That's what the 3 speed was from also, but it's toasted. The rear end is from the same car as well, it's the first year of the 8-3/4. The rear end gearing is 3.5:1. I got a A-833 4 speed out of a B body to replace the junk 3 speed. I bought a lakewood blowproof bellhousing, and have a good flywheel & clutch to complete it. I found some shorty headers with flanges. I bought a repop Plymouth tailgate instead of a Dodge, just because I liked it more and thought it fit being that the engine was out of a Plymouth. The real jewel of this project is the grille shell I found for it. When I bought the truck originally it had a 34 or so Chevy Master shell on it, which didn't look good or make sense. It took a long time to find the Dodge Brothers grille. It's from a 1936 Dodge D2 sedan. 36 Dodge pickup and D2 cars shared the same grille shell and insert. Being that the truck is a late 35 cab with regular opening doors, I thought the 36 grille wouldn't be too big of stretch. I even have the crank piece, and the ram emblem that goes on top. The whole grille is a rare, expensive piece that you're not going to find unless you pony up the cash AND get lucky. I have a 4 piece hood from a 37 Plymouth PT-50 pickup. 36 and 37 Dodge pickup hoods interchange, as does the rare 37 Plymouth pickup hood. There were differences in the grille shell inserts, but the hoods and grille shells are the same size. The metal is in pretty nice shape. It will need a bit of work on the cab corners, otherwise it is nicer than you would expect to find. I have the clear Wisconsin title in my name, and can store the truck for a month or two if this will help a potential buyer work out their schedule. You can call me with questions until 10pm central time. If I'm at work my phone will be off, just leave a message with your number. David 715- two seven one - 0530
