The t/a was in its 9th year of production, the last 8 in the 2nd generation bodystyle, and was going strong. The 78 bodystyle was mostly a carryover from the dramatic change in 1977. The pontiac engineers kept a great body and turned their focus to horsepower and handling. A few subtle changes were a new grill, replacing the honeycomb grill centers with a cross hatch arrangement. A pontiac logo was bolted on to the grill on the left side, replacing the decal that was on the header in 77. And the taillamp surrounds were painted gloss black, replacing the previous body color. A new option was also added in 1978. Solar Gold was now available and was reversing the color combination of the black bandit car of the previous year. I., automatic cars built in 1978. It is solar gold with the camel velour cloth interior. The current mileage is 77,262 and is the original mileage. The current owner bought the car 12 years ago from a guy who told him that his mother was the original owner. It was repainted gold before the current owner bought it. The paint job has a few scratches in it and some fisheyes in several spots, but overall looks pretty good and the body is straight. The wheels are the original honeycomb aluminum 15x7 with the centercaps. The tires are matching bf goodrich p235/75r15 and are about 50% on the tread. This t/a starts right up and runs and drives great! The engine is the original 6.6, l78- 400 c.i. 4 bbl v8, backed by a 3 speed automatic transmission. Everything looks factory under the hood. The current owner has replaced the radiator, thermostat, water pump, belts, timing cover gasket, alternator, battery, brake master cylinder and the power brake booster. The a/c system is all intact, but the compressor clutch was starting to lock up, so the owner took the belt off. The exhaust system has been replaced with new pipe and flowmaster mufflers. It still has the original dual chrome tips on the rear of the exhaust. The interior is almost untouched original. The steering wheel and the dash are in excellent condition and all of the gauges work. There is one small crack on the center console door and the headliner needs to be replaced. The door panels are perfect and the power widows work good. The glass is all in good shape and the windows are tinted. The stereo has been upgraded to a kenwood cd player with an auxillary port and infinity 6x9 speakers in the rear, and it sounds good! Take a look at the pictures and watch the video of this 1978 trans am. This car is not perfect, but has been well taken care of. It is a great driver in its current condition, and wouldnt take much to restore it to its original glory. It runs good and sounds great! Relive the 70s today in this cool t/a!!
