Unfortunately, Ebay still does NOT recognize foreign VINs. This is NOT a 1980 Renault. It is 1988. I always had an eye for unusual vehicles and a desire to own them. On our last trip to Germany in May this year, I came across this Renault Rapid at a friend's restoration shop. It belonged to one of his long-time customers, who traveled extensively all over Europe for many years. He converted it, meticulously and with utmost practicality in mind, into a small camper. It will by no means compete with a big luxury motorhome, but nevertheless it has all the necessary goodies: sleeping accommodations, a small propane stove, a sink, a lot of storage space, privacy curtains and cozy interior lighting powered by a secondary battery. All Camping gear, including pots, pans, plates, flatware, cutting boards etc. are still on board.Having belonged to a "true German", a retired railroad engineer, the car is squeaky clean and was perfectly maintained at the Klassik-Garage in Bad Saulgau, Germany.It has shiny original paint and is rust-free. Interior is also in excellent condition without any cracks on the dashboard.The original rear seat and rubber floor mat come with the car, in case one would want to re-convert into a passenger car. The camping interior is completely removable in less than an hour. That said, the car runs flawlessly and can easily keep up with L.A. freeway traffic.It is powered by a 1.9 Liter, naturally aspirated, 54 HP Diesel engine mated to a smooth shifting 5 speed transmission. Since it only weighs about 1.000 kg (2200 lbs), it has sufficient power. Fuel mileage is about 35 mpg. It needs nothing and can be enjoyed immediately.I have a free and clear WA title in my name. Attention California Buyers: Since it has a current Washington title and there is no smog required in CA for Diesels before 1997, it should not be a problem to get it registered in California .BUT....... Since the CA DMV seems to complicate most everything, I would check with them first.
