Vehicle Detail

Unique and rare vehicle. Vehicle was owned by a former racing enthusiast who passed away in his 90s. Well maintained and loved. In dry storage since 2004. Car has not been cleaned since being put in storage. I decided to take pictures as it is before any cleaning to show how well it has been maintained. Hard to find in this condition. Original custom seats. There are a few scratches - see photos - nothing that will detract from it's great condition. Custom bonnet and upgrades made when the car was purchased. You will fall in love with this custom paint job from the 70's. I have decided not to take it out of hibernation based on advice received from MG Forum. They suggest that it be taken out of hibernation and driven. I live in the Northeast and with winter fast approaching it will not be driven until spring. This car is high quality custom vehicle waiting for an owner who can appreciate it's unique originality and style. This is an amazing car who needs a collectible enthusiast to appreciate it. Please email if you have any questions. Buyer will need to supply transportation to final new home of this AMAZING MG! Here are a few comments I received from members of the MG Forum regarding this vehicle: (These guys will not be happy that I am selling this car!): It has a custom interior/body work and etc. Looks to be in nice shape from the pictures. It appears it has a fiberglass tilt front end. Elizabeth! That is one sweet looking ride you've picked up. There were a number of manufacturers of aftermarket parts to convert the inexpensive Midgets into sleeker looking sports cars. The Kellett, Ashley and Lenham companies and probably others took a cue from the earlier Bugeye Sprite and made flip-front fiberglass body panels such as the one you have. I especially like the matching upholstery, gauge cluster and it looks like the previous owner took Jaguar FRONT side marker lights and added them to the REAR of your car. Lovely color. Hopefuly you get a clean bill of health from your mechanic. If not, the motley crew here on the Experience will guide you along the way. You'll never want to own another Mustang again! (I know from whence I speak. Trust me, I was a diehard Camaro/Firebird/Buick Gran Sport fan before buying my first Midget three years ago). What ever you do, please don't change the way it looks. I'm guessing it was modified in period. I love that paintjob and the front end. The fiberglass front will lighten the car and improve handling. These cars are very easy to work on and you will have to learn how to spin your own wrenches long term. I don't know who your mechanic is, but you may have a hard time finding one familiar with these cars. These cars are meant to be driven, so there may be some considerations if your Midget gets a good report card but has to be "put up" until Spring. The worst thing you can do it have it sorted out for the first time in 10 years and then store it from November until March without exercising it. I'm not entirely convinced your bodywork conversion is either of the Ashley conversions shown in the link given earlier. I'm noticing the location of the side markers, no hood scoop, and no divets for turnsignals. That is a Speedwell engineering front end on the car. I would like you to see you register the car on this site and to start a small blog. have an MG Midget with an Ashley bonnet replacement which is very desirable. They were designed to improve the streamlining of the car and at the same time improved (?) the looks. There is also a rear Ashley hardtop which you do not have. Definitely a Kellison bonnet. The Speedwell and Ashley radiator openings have different shapes than the one you have. The rest of the car appears to be standard MG Midget with various common mechanical and uncommon appearance upgrades. So many modified Midgets are either half finished or run down and poorly kept up. Yours appears fully finished and well maintained. Nice find! It is interesting that it has a 2pc heater housing. According to Horler's history, the 1 pc housing was introduced in 9/'70 for the '71 MY. Other than that, the rest of the stuff looks to be '71, or at least '70 (4 fuse fuse block, Boot and Bonnet ratchet stays, PVC covered wire harness, and so on). I like the "STREETMACHINE" script on the rockers! Very period, just like the paint. Interesting that the chrome has been "sun baked" off of the switch bezels, but the padded dash top looks to be uncracked (which they almost all do after exposure to the sun). I will try and answer any questions to the best of my ability. Keep in mind I am not a car expert but know enough that this is one special vehicle.
