Vehicle Detail

Thank you for taking the time to look at my 1989 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan. An upcoming wedding forces the immediate sale of this beautiful vehicle. Paypal will be accepted for the deposit up to $2000.00. I've always been a "GM Guy," and here's some history to help you appreciate this still-iconic Cadillac design. This particular car was the first full year of a redesign that GM did to correct the mistake they made in 1986 by drastically shrinking their full-size offerings across the board. Moving their regal DeVille and Fleetwood lines from rear-wheel-drive to front-wheel-drive platforms, they lopped off nearly two feet of what made Cadillacs so special to the people who bought them. 1989 saw the restoration of over a foot of this length, and only the sedans saw an increase also into their wheelbases. Even by today's standards of maximizing every square inch of the body shell, this is truly a cavernous vehicle inside. On the Fleetwood, the name to historically grace all top-of-the-line flagship Cadillacs (What's an XTS?!?!?), for the years of 1989 to 1993, this body style was known as the "Baby Fleetwood." Compared to the 221"-long rear-drive B-Body Fleetwood Brougham through 1992 and 225"-long reskinned version from 1993 to 1996, these are small. At just over 205", this "Baby" is a half-foot bigger than an brand-new Lexus LS460. Remember that "XTS" I mentioned earlier? Today's "Big" Cadillac is only 202" long. This is not a baby. It does, however, return over 20 mpg on regular unleaded gas with an 18-gallon tank, possess a body-hiding 18-cubic-feet of trunk space, and is powered through the front wheels for year-round stability. It also has a nameplate on its haunches, not a meaningless acronym. And a hood ornament: a real, fist-sized hood ornament bathed in gold plate. In 1989, this exact car cost $33,259. That's over $64,000 in 2014 dollars. And what's inside this $64,000 question? Real American Walnut -- acres of it. The entire dash-surround is real wood, as are the large areas on the door panels front and back. The plush carpeting throughout is thicker and nicer than what is put into a new car. Dial a temperature on the digital dash, and the car effortlessly commands either the heater or air conditioner precisely to the inputted number. This has ABS. Yes, ABS, a very complicated Teves system brings this 3545-pound "Baby" to a stop with a unique hydraulic system. This particular system, having just had $2000 worth of repairs to the lines and hydraulics, works great! Worried about going instead of stopping? This Fleetwood has the HT4500 engine, proving Cadillac learned all the lessons from their failed attempt with the HT4100. By 1989, the enlarged displacement of the 90-degree OHV in the 4.5L also included cylinder heads and liners that were cast iron. At 155 horsepower, you're not going to win any drag races, but the digital electronic fuel injection and 240 lbs.-ft. of torque will give you the command you'd expect from a Cadillac. You'll also be commanding the only truly reliable and serviceable Cadillac-made engine from the 1980's and most of the 1990's. Inside this car, you'll find all the materials far better than you'd expect for a 25-year-old vehicle with 80,000 miles. The headliner is surprisingly and wonderfully intact. If you know GM cars of this vintage, you know that is atypical. Also atypical is the headliner material that continues down to the A, B, and C pillars inside. It's nearly 95% unfaded and completely untorn. The tufted leather, also unique to the Fleetwood, is supple and unblemished. Carpeting throughout is thickpile and visually stunning. There is some slight wear on the driver's side, but that is minimal. There original floormats were not included when I acquired this car, and so the rest of the carpeting has benefited from a recent professional cleaning. There's real metal brightwork throughout the interior, and it's striking. If I were keeping this vehicle, I would have the steering wheel removed and re-leathered (there's a cover on it currently hiding the usual GM leather ungraining). There's rear seat vanity mirrors. Rear seat vanity mirrors, but they're currently not lighting up. The radio was replaced with a new-fangled thing that has an auxiliary line, but my dream has been to buy an original GM radio ($45 on eBay) and install it with an auxiliary line instead. The aesthetics of the existing CD player radio make me cringe. The chromed plastic on the driver's side door (where the door, windows, and locks are) has some very slight peeling. Maybe it only bothers me, but there are NOS options on the internet I've been investigating. Outside, this Fleetwood is certainly better than most 25-year-old cars with 80,000 miles. The full vinyl roof, unique to the Fleetwood has little to no fading. The trim for the roof, painted the same Dark Antelope Metallic Clearcoat, has very slight fading and chipping. The two-tone finish on this Fleetwood was a huge expense back in 1989, and it's just as striking and unique now. The hood and trunk have very few scratches in the original paint. The horizontal panel just below the license plate area is the only area on the car where the Clearcoat has significantly faded. There are no door dings along the sides of the vehicle, which is surprising to say the least. On the driver's side, there are two rear panels that were unceremoniously screwed on. Please fix this and send me pictures. Of particular delight on the exterior of this Fleetwood are the quarter panels. GM, in strange 1980's fashion, forged the quarter panels of this style of DeVille and Fleetwood out of fiberglass. Many form hairline cracks visible on the exterior of the panels. All four of these are completely flawless upon very close inspection. In 1989, Cadillac produced 26,641 Fleetwood sedans, most of which are distinguished by the skirted rear wheels, padded vinyl roof, and vastly upgraded interiors. In comparison, Cadillac produced 122,693 Sedan DeVilles in 1989. This Fleetwood is a very special and unique automobile. Please give it a good home. In addition to the revamps within the hydraulic braking system, this had a brand new battery installed in September. The Pennsylvania inspection and emissions test, one of the toughest in the country, is current through February 2015. The aforementioned rear vanity mirrors are currently not lighting. The driver's side front window goes down, but does not go up. It's not the motor, but the plastic clip inside the door frame, per most GM cars of this vintage. The power antenna goes up, but needs help going all the way down. This vehicle rides straight, but all four of the current whitewall tires needs replacing, with the immediate need for the rear tires. I do not recommend driving more than 100 miles on the currently rear tires. The standard P205/70R15s, on which this rides, are inexpensive, and if you want to upgrade to fancier vogue tires, this is a prime candidate. This is not a project car. This is a beautiful daily driver. You will be proud to be seen in this Fleetwood and enjoy many more miles of smooth driving surrounding in Cadillac luxury.
