Vehicle Detail
1950 HUDSON SUPER EIGHT SEDAN HISTORY The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable, well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was to be forever changed on December 7th, 1947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It’s Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. Production had actually begun on October 12th. The tremendous factory conversion effort took only 23 days. Hudson spent $16,000,000 for development and new production equipment. The new car was revolutionary in that virtually no parts interchanged with the 1947 models, except the eight cylinder engine, which was essentially the same. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom, due to the floorpans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. While the 1941 Nash 600 had been the first production unibody car, the new Hudson was significantly more rugged in construction and offered a sleek new design that was way ahead of the competition. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was of welded all steel construction. The cars were available in Super and Commodore trim levels with either a Six or Eight cylinder engine. The 1950 Hudson Super Eight is the lowest production Stepdown Hudson, with a total of 1074 units produced in all body styles. There are only FIVE 1950 Super Eight sedans listed in the Hudson Club database. They are all listed as parts cars except this one! This may be the ONLY restorable 1950 Hudson Super Eight Sedan on the Planet! There was recently a restored coupe listed here on Ebay in California for 25 Grand! I have been going to the Hudson Club events since the late 1960’s and this is the only 50 Super Eight that I have ever seen in person! If any of you out there know of another one of these cars, I would like to hear about it. The 1950 Super Eight Sedan featured in this auction lived its life as a car in dry southwestern Kansas, near the town of WaKeeney. I bought it in a package of cars from an estate and had it transported here to Indy in 2006. The current mileage is 58,993. I believe this to be the actual mileage. It was painted a bright metallic green called Peacock Green. The options include Overdrive, Radio and Heater. CONDITION This Super Eight Sedan is structurally rust free in spite of the exterior being nearly all covered in surface rust. There is a small rusthole under the drivers side headlight, a hole in the front of the passenger side rocker panel and in the passenger side rear quarter panel. I have depicted the rusted areas in the photos. This car of course needs a total restoration, although it is complete down to the battery holddown, jack and original Goodyear Super Cushion spare tire. The headliner is missing. Some of the exterior chrome is pretty nice. It is missing two stainless moldings on the passenger side. I will include replacements. I have turned the engine with the starter and it sounds like fairly even compression. I put a decent set of 54 Hornet seats in the car. It includes some NOS parts to start the restoration. They include NOS front fender badges, a nice set of instruments, a glovebox emblem, a set of NOS window cranks and a NOS steering wheel. It has clear title. I am starting the bidding at what the NOS steering wheel and parts, the overdrive and related parts are worth. There is NO RESERVE! I would like to see this car restored. DETAILS This is a restorable Hudson Super Eight sedan from a dry climate. This car will need to be trailered or towed since it is inoperable. I have done my best to make an accurate detailed description of this car. If there is an aspect that is not mentioned or you require additional information regarding an item, please E-mail or call Larry at 317-908-6401 with any questions or to schedule an appointment to inspect this Hudson Super Eight sedan before the auction ends. Please do not bid unless you intend to purchase the vehicle. I will do whatever is necessary to expedite the delivery to include meeting you or your shipper. I have been told that I should include the language from the Federal Trade Commission Buyers Guide. This vehicle is being sold As-Is, Where-Is, With No Warranty or Guarantee.
