Vehicle Detail
Nice rust free GS convertible. Very nice driving and handling car. The following work has been done to the car Engine The original 455 was long gone on the car, and it had a built 455 in it when I bought it. The engine was not what I wanted so I purchased a 1973 Buick 455, this was a new complete short block we started with. I didn't want to rebuild another old Buick engine for the car, so we started with new. We got it mainly for the block and crank, and the only item used from the original GM block assembly was the crank and rods, all the other parts on the engine are new. The cam is the TA Performance Stage 1. Estimated compression, is 9.8/1, so this runs very nicely on pump gas. Smooth idle, but pulls very strong. In the assembly process all rotating parts were balanced to insure smooth running. Has a hi torque starter which fires the engine with ease The engine runs very cool, averaging 175-185, even on a hot day. The car has a hi flow aluminum radiator which does a great job keeping the engine running cool. Transmission I started with a 4 speed that came from another Buick, I had it completely rebuilt, and used the new Muncie Super Case for a stronger transmission. This 4 speed is not original to the GS as it was an automatic car. I sent the car to a prominate performance shop in Wisconsin to have the car transformed from automatic to this new 4 speed. He did a fantastic job and everything works as new. While in his shop, he replaced the speedometer with a correct 4 speed version, and had the tilt column rebuilt and new ignition switch. We also added a freshly built 3.08 Posi rear to the car. I wanted to be able to drive on the highways and keep the RPMs down, so at 70 mph, I am only turning around 2900 to 3000 RPMs Suspension Entire front end of the car has been replaced with new parts, from bushings to the centerlink, its all new. The steering box is the Delphi 600 series box, these boxes are extremely tight and give the car the feel of rack and pinion steering. No more of the GM light and sloppy steering. The car handles very well and drives like new. It was converted at that time from a drum brake car to disc brakes, if your going to have the power of a 455, you need to be able to stop. I wanted one that rode and steered and stopped like a modern car and it does this well. I had a set of 15x7 Buick rallyes made for me and added a set of BFG radials, 245/60 in the rear and 235/60 up front. Over the last two years, most all mechanical aspects of this car has been upgraded or replaced Upholstery and soft goods Last spring I had all the upholstery replaced, as the original vinyl's had lost there luster. This is the Buick white pearl interior, we also replaced the top as the original was black and I wanted white to match up with the interior colors. Fresh carpets were also installed. I had a a Buick 8 track tape player gutted and a modern am/fm/cd player installed inside. The face plate is hinged to drop down and expose the radio. There is also a remote control for the stereo. The dash speaker was replaced with a dual cone speaker to be able to handle the after market stereo, and I had kick panel speakers installed, so the system is now a 4 channel stereo. The dash has been replaced with new, and new lens's installed on the gauge panel. Body and trim The car was repainted before I purchased it, and was originally a white car, now a dark metallic blue. Personally I like the blue with the white interior. There are no rusted panels, or floors or trunk to worry about. The grill is original, but both front and rear bumpers have been replaced with in the last two years. All bright work is good, the body is clean and the paint has a nice shine quality. The gas tank was replaced when the rear bumper was done. Glass is all good on the car. I have the original Build sheet for the car as well that documents this as a true GS 455 convertible I will be more than happy to answer any questions. Mark 319-361-6465
