Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1995 Mercedes E300 Diesel. Let me start off by saying that I will describe this car as honestly as I can and if I missed anything, please feel free to ask me any questions. I believe that whatever comes around, goes around. I wouldn't want to buy a car that has been dishonestly described - or with tons of information left out like many cars sold on eBay and craigslist. I'm selling this because I'm buying a Nissan Leaf. This car has been serviced ever since it was delivered on 5/25/1994 in Arlington, VA at the American Service Center. There are over $10,000 in maintenance records. I have used only OEM (Meyle, Sachs-Boge, Behr, etc.) and genuine Mercedes parts in this car. No cheap imported “Uro” brand parts. If the original parts lasted this long, why wouldn't you use the same manufacturer? Within the past year I have had major service done such as the: Wiring harness Brakes Front ABS wheel sensors Glow plugs Glow plug relay Sun roof seal Motor mounts Front ball joints Belt tensioner and belt Fan clutch Intake gaskets Overload Voltage Protection Relay Fuel injector return lines Fertelli Bosio injector nozzles (made in Italy) All new tires and much more (just ask me if you need to know if anything else has been replaced, it would take too long to list everything) This is a rust-free southern car. As it was a southern car, the paint was affected by the sun. The paint is pretty faded and rough on the car, but it is doing a good job of protecting the metal and it's not flaking off. The plastic chin of the lower bumper broke off. As I mentioned before, the wiring harness was replaced by me within the past year. This job was over $1,100. If you are considering buying one of these W124 chassis Mercedes, you MUST check if this has been replaced before you buy it. The insulation was made out of a biodegradable rubber. When they're exposed to heat from the engine over time (even as little as a couple years after manufacture), they would biodegrade. This poses a huge safety risk. If one of the exposed wires touches metal, it can short out, causing the car to shut off. You could lose your power steering and brakes going down the freeway at 70MPH. Most of the harnesses in the W124 Mercedes you see on the market have not been replaced and have been allowed to degrade even further. Be aware of cheap W124 cars with no maintenance records - there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes! Remember that this car was just under $70,000 new. This new harness is made of an improved material and will not fall apart or cause any safety issues. The 3.0 liter 6-cylinder OM606.910 engine runs great. The Fertelli Bosio injector nozzles really improved performance and fuel economy. I average over 31 miles per gallon combined highway/city. This is arguably the most reliable Mercedes diesel ever made. Just do some research on this engine and you will be impressed by it's reputation. When it gets a little colder out, the engine sometimes runs rough for a couple of seconds before it smooths out. I was told that this was because the injector nozzles need to be balanced to a certain PSI. It doesn't smoke at all – in fact, it didn't burn ANY oil in between oil changes. Changed the air filter recently along with an oil change. It does have cruise control, but it's not currently operating. The transmission shifts really nicely and it's silky smooth. The shifter is nice and tight with no play. The A/C and heat work excellent - intermittently. This just started happening within the past 2 months and the climate control unit is the cause of this . My brother has a W124 chassis wagon and he had the same problem until he replaced his. It was only a couple hundred dollars for the part with installation. The power sunroof works great. I had a new seal shipped from Germany and installed. The driver and passenger power seats work great with no problems. There's a button on the dash that you can press to fold the rear headrests down automatically – it works great. The vacuum operated locks work perfectly. Another cool feature on this car is the auto-closing windows and sunroof. If you're outside the car and realized that you forgot to roll the windows and sunroof up, it's no big deal. Just hold your key to the right and the windows and sunroof will automatically close. The power windows work great with the exception of the rear passenger's window. It will work until a certain point. You need to then pull the window up all the way. From my research, the regulator is bad. Fortunately, it's a relatively cheap part. The interior is in great shape. The seats are in excellent shape. The only flaw is a small spot on the driver's seat where the seat cover is separating from the base material. Again, it's hard to notice and would be an easy repair. The carpet mats are a little dirty and could use a cleaning, but all-weather mats are included. The wood trim is in great shape. The lacquer is starting to crack near the shifter (common), but it still looks beautiful. If you're looking for a safe, reliable, classy looking car, this is an excellent option. I'm sad to see it go. I'm located near Milwaukee. It's about a 1.5 hour drive from Chicago. If you need shipping, it won't be a problem as I've shipped cars before. Please feel free to ask me any questions. You can e-mail me or give me a call at 262-309-7453.On Sep-23-14 at 12:16:52 PDT, seller added the following information: I'd like to add that I also replaced the front struts, strut bumpers, boots, and front shock mounts this summer. The seats have a memory function for the driver and passenger. The side mirrors are powered. Steering is nice and tight.
