Up for sale is a 1967 Volvo 122, also known as an Amazon. This ride features Volvo’s B18 1.8 L, 4-cylinder engine with the M40 4-speed manual transmission. The vehicle was spruced up in the 1990s, at which time the interior was re-upholstered and the exterior repainted in metallic baby blue, and a fully-functional and watertight tilt/pop-out sunroof was added, along with a functional multi-deck CD player and radio. While the car is mostly original, this Amazon has received various subtle upgrades that make it a great daily driver. These include: a Pertronix electronic ignition and choke (no points to change!), an alternator instead of the old, worn-out generator (much more power to charge the battery and run radio, headlights, and heater all at once without draining the battery), a Weber downdraft carburetor, auto-tensioning 3-point seatbelts in front and rear (from a Volvo 240), and the addition of front and rear sway bars from IPD USA, a Volvo parts specialist based in Portland, OR. The sway bars in particular dramatically enhance the drivability of this little car, allowing it to corner with ease and hold to the road. The car also has several new parts to replace worn original components, including brake and clutch master cylinders, rear brake shoes, a heater core, and weather stripping under the hood, in the trunk, and on the driver’s door surround. The vehicle is certainly not perfect, and shows some signs of its age, most notably in some bubbles of rust in the paint (see photos). However, the structure of the car is completely rust-free, and the underside still retains its original Volvo factory anti-corrosion treatment. Mechanically, the car is excellent. It’s no race car, but runs strongly and is guaranteed to turn heads. Other than the dome light, all components work, from the turn signals to the windshield washer to the heater, fan, and defroster, and the owner’s manual, extra seals and new mud flaps are included.
