Vehicle Detail
MGB GT SPECIAL PACKAGE My brother and I have a long history with MG vehicles. Many MGA's TD and a TF. My Brother had always wanted an MGB-this car was taken out of a garage in my neighborhood one day after having sat there for quite a while, put in the driveway and had a small for sale sign on itI was impressed by the originality of the car and it's history, and purchased it as a gift for my Brother. The car went straight to my mechanic and I have one receipt for $6,500 worth of work. Approximately 40 miles have been driven since the $6,500 work has been complted. I wanted everything to work well when I gave the car to my Brother. Approximately 40 miles have been put on car since the work was completed. Because this car is low, and is a hardtop, and my brother has real bad hips from many years of tennis, he had extreme difficulty getting in and out, and we decided that an MGB convertible would be the better solution. History of car as told to me by previous owner: The car was purchased locally in San Rafael from a British Car dealer. (still has Ca black plates) First owner sold car in 1969 after two years to the party that I purchased it from. . So, this has been pretty much a one owner car-at least for the past 45 years. Previous owner states that engine was rebuilt- I have a large package of all detailed receipts of repairs from previous owner, as well as the one I just recently paid for. I have replaced new clutch and transmission, rear brakes, carburators rebuilt and adjusted, tuned, oiled and lubed, cooling system serviced, thermostats, installed overflow to radiator, and numerous small items looked at and adjusted, repaired/replaced. Windows going up and down more easily, make sure all bulbs and signals work, etc.. I believe that the only thing possibly not working is the radio, but it is there, and I asked my mechanic not to worry about it. Before I receive a car from shop, I instruct mechanics to drive the car around for a few days to make sure all is good. They did, and i received it. The car is an MGBGT-what gives it the extra is that it is a "SPECIAL" package. From what I was told, this Special package included a few extra items that the dealer bought from the distributor, and at his expense installed upon delivery at the dealership. These items include, (to the best of my knowledge) wooden dash, wooden gear shift knob, two emblems indicating "SPECIAL" in front of each door's exterior. (one is missing), maybe the chrome over rider on the front bumper, wooden steering wheel (it is covered now with a leather steering wheel cover) so am not sure if it is wooden. I am sure that there are other accessory items in the "SPECIAL" package, but am not certain what else made it a special package-outside of the fact that the "Special" logo plaque is still on the front fender. Car is original paint, except passenger door which is slightly brighter. Previous owner states that the door was damaged when wind blew it forward when opened, and hinges bent, and was repainted at that time. He further stated that this was probably the time when the second "Special" emblem went missing. This is a great and original running car, or an ideal candidate for a full restoration. No rust is evident The MGB was first introduced in 1962 at the Earls Court Motor Show and it was to become Britain's best selling medium sized sports car of all time. When launched in May 1962, the MGB was to become for many, the epitome of the modern British sportscar. 1967 saw the introduction of the Mk II version of both versions and these models benefited from an all synchromesh gearbox, and an alternator instead of the earlier cars dynamo. Who would have thought that this MG model with its stunning lines would prove to be the last MG to be built at the famous Abingdon factory.
