May 1943 Ford GPW Mostly complete 43 GPW purchased from a WW2 veterans estate sale. Family members could not remember how long grandpa had the jeep, but remembered it growing up. A NEW body was installed as gramps had made modifications to the side to help him to get in and out easier. He had also converted it sometime ago to 12V alternator system which we decided to leave in place. The ol'girl fires right up and drives great! We replaced the main body wiring and installed new tail lights and dash gauges. Everything works as it should. When the old body was off we replaced the rear crossmember as the original one was pretty rough. Gramps had redone the front bumper to facilitate towing the jeep behind his RV. We left that in place in case you would like to do the same. The numbers on the hood are as close as we could get, with what was left on the original hood. We left the unit markings off, and can put what ever the new owner would like to have on her. The motor had been rebuilt sometime in the past and has what we were told is a post war CJ2 head installed. Has original WW2 drive line with like new tires. The spare still has the little nubby things attached. Canvas cushions are also like new. Gramps hand built the rear seat so he could take the grand kids for rides and thrill them with heroic war exploits. The family said he was in the motor pool. Overall a really nice nice piece of American history that with a little more work would be 100% correct or remember gramps and leave her the way she is.
