It was begining to get some rust bubbles around the back wheels and bottom of the fenders which scared her into selling it to me. (I began pursuing the car over 20 years ago). She and I believe the 82K miles to be correct. It has always been maintained well and because Kansas is not in the rust belt it has been preserved well. I loved the color and dreamed of taking long trips such as cruising through the Rocky mountains with the top down. But even driving locally has been alot of fun since this car really draws alot of attention and desire because of the colors and condition. To make cruising alot better I converted the 3 speed to a 90s T5 5 speed overdrive. This really makes hiway driving more enjoyable! Work Performed: I first changed out the 3 speed with a conversion kit to the 5 speed overdrive (which fit right in) Even the position of the shifter hasn't changed. The coversion kit included the bellhousing and a shifter that looks just like an original 4 speed. Since the shifter mounts directly into the transmission you lose all the slack and mushiness of the original external shifter. The original transmission,shifter and bell housing are included in the sale. When I began with the body I cut out the bubbled rust areas around the outer rear wheel wells, bottom rear quarters behind the wheels, lower rear fenders, and small spots on the lower front corners of the doors. The original floors, frame rails, and trunk areas all looked good. I mig welded in new steel the did the appropriate body work. After lots of 2K priming and block sanding I painted it with urethane single stage in the original code turquoise. I wet sanded with 1500, buffed with several stages of pads and compounds, then hand polished to get the very nice glass smooth finish. I didn't use clear coat because I wanted it to look more correct and not over glossy. I have been restoring cars for 46 years and I was very happy with the more original looking shine. Much of the chrome was replaced including bumpers, wheel well moldings, and trunk back edge trim. But much (including all letters, emblems, grille center, gas cap assy, vent window assys, and convertable body trim) is original and unpitted. The original seats were so good (except a worn bead that is pictured) that I left them but repaced the carpet, front door panels, and sun visors. The entire dash including the pad is original and everything in it works including the radio. The pad does have a little sun darkening on top but still looks good. The top is older but in very good shape. I had a new back window put in and vinyl dyed the top because of some yellowing. I had my mechanic recently overhaul the carburetor and I had a new muffler and tail pipe installed. Condition: This car is very beautiful, as you can see in the pictures, but the paint is not ultra show perfect. It has very high quality paint job. It's much better that original paint. One very good thing in this car's favor is that it hasn't gone through a rough life like so many have. It starts runs and drives like it should except the speedometer reads somewhat slow since the transmission change and the starter is sometimes slow to release when the engine starts(can make a 'buzoot'sound for a second) The engine sounds good with no knocks or smoke. The manual top is sping assisted whick makes it easy for one person to put it up and down. The steering is manual but also easy to steer and tight. Conclusion: The buyer is welcome to inspect this car before paying and if he or she feels it has been misrepresented ,I will refund the deposit in full. I will help a transport to load but the buyer must make all arrangements. Kansas buyers are subject to 8.65% sales tax. The car seems road worthy but I want to make it clear that it has been driven little in all the years since I have owned it. I would recomend trailering it to be safe until putting on some local miles around your home town. History: I bought this car about 8 or 9 years ago from an older lady that had been sparingly driving it for years. It was begining to get some rust bubbles around the back wheels and bottom of the fenders which scared her into selling it to me. (I began pursuing the car over 20 years ago). She and I believe the 82K miles to be correct. It has always been maintained well and because Kansas is not in the rust belt it has been preserved well. I loved the color and dreamed of taking long trips such as cruising through the Rocky mountains with the top down. But even driving locally has been alot of fun since this car really draws alot of attention and desire because of the colors and condition. To make cruising alot better I converted the 3 speed to a 90s T5 5 speed overdrive. This really makes hiway driving more enjoyable!
Work Performed: I first changed out the 3 speed with a conversion kit to the 5 speed overdrive (which fit right in) Even the position of the shifter hasn't changed. The coversion kit included the bellhousing and a shifter that looks just like an original 4 speed. Since the shifter mounts directly into the transmission you lose all the slack and mushiness of the original external shifter. The original transmission,shifter and bell housing are included in the sale. When I began with the body I cut out the bubbled rust areas around the outer rear wheel wells, bottom rear quarters behind the wheels, lower rear fenders, and small spots on the lower front corners of the doors. The original floors, frame rails, and trunk areas all looked good. I mig welded in new steel the did the appropriate body work. After lots of 2K priming and block sanding I painted it with urethane single stage in the original code turquoise. I wet sanded with 1500, buffed with several stages of pads and compounds, then hand polished to get the very nice glass smooth finish. I didn't use clear coat because I wanted it to look more correct and not over glossy. I have been restoring cars for 46 years and I was very happy with the more original looking shine. Much of the chrome was replaced including bumpers, wheel well moldings, and trunk back edge trim. But much (including all letters, emblems, grille center, gas cap assy, vent window assys, and convertable body trim) is original and unpitted. The original seats were so good (except a worn bead that is pictured) that I left them but repaced the carpet, front door panels, and sun visors. The entire dash including the pad is original and everything in it works including the radio. The pad does have a little sun darkening on top but still looks good. The top is older but in very good shape. I had a new back window put in and vinyl dyed the top because of some yellowing. I had my mechanic recently overhaul the carburetor and I had a new muffler and tail pipe installed.
Condition: This car is very beautiful, as you can see in the pictures, but the paint is not ultra show perfect. It has very high quality paint job. It's much better that original paint. One very good thing in this car's favor is that it hasn't gone through a rough life like so many have. It starts runs and drives like it should except the speedometer reads somewhat slow since the transmission change and the starter is sometimes slow to release when the engine starts(can make a 'buzoot'sound for a second) The engine sounds good with no knocks or smoke. The manual top is sping assisted whick makes it easy for one person to put it up and down. The steering is manual but also easy to steer and tight.
Conclusion: The buyer is welcome to inspect this car before paying and if he or she feels it has been misrepresented ,I will refund the deposit in full. I will help a transport to load but the buyer must make all arrangements. Kansas buyers are subject to 8.65% sales tax. The car seems road worthy but I want to make it clear that it has been driven little in all the years since I have owned it. I would recomend trailering it to be safe until putting on some local miles around your home town.
