Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a 1972 Triumph Bonneville, T120R. It's not a concourse restoration or a matching numbers survivor. It is a fun, decent looking rider, with correct mechanical specs. When I first looked at this bike, it had been sitting for more than a decade. The paint was terrible, but it had good compression and the transmission shifted into all 4 gears. The price was right so I bought it hoping to flip it for a profit. After cleaning the points and carbs and changing the oil it fired right up and ran great, but I noticed that the engine number didn't match the frame number. The engine was from a 1972 Tiger (TR6R), not a Bonneville. Tiger and Bonneville engines are identical except that Tigers have a single carb and Bonnevilles are dual carb. This engine has the dual carb Bonneville head and carbs, making it mechanically identical to a Bonneville motor, just not numbers-matching. Without a matching numbers engine my dreams of profits went away, so I decided to make it a personal rider. Now health issues make riding more difficult, so I'm considering a sale, but not a give-away. I've set a reasonable reserve. I've done the following to this bike, and have put more than a thousand miles on it to date: Replaced both tires with Dunlop Gold Seal K70s as original and new inner tubes Replaced handlebar switch assemblies with new repro units by SPARX Replaced mirror Replaced seat with good used OEM seat Replaced rear shocks Installed repro turn signals to replace missing originals Installed repro key switch Replaced front brake cable Replaced damaged fuel tank with a NOS tank in correct paint Replaced headlight shell with repro unit Installed new battery Replaced points, condensers, and mechanical advance with Pazon electronic ignition and set timing. Original parts are included. Replaced original selenium rectifier with new Tympanium rectifier/regulator combo unit. Left original zener diode regulator in place as a backup. Set valve clearance per specification Inspected primary chain, tensioner, and clutch. Adjusted primary chain tension Replaced original speedometer and tachometer with good used OEM units Replaced most rubber parts (footpeg, kick start, shifter, etc.) Replaced trouble-prone leaf spring shift detent with earlier (better) design coil-spring/plunger unit Replaced oil pump with updated design new pump Replaced ugly aftermarket exhaust with good used OEM head pipes (with crossover) and new, period correct, Dunstall replica mufflers Added Lockhart Oil Cooler Rode and enjoyed! Maine does not title pre-95 vehicles. It has a current Maine registration which should allow you to obtain title if you need one. Chose "Clear" in the Ebay listing because a choice is required, and "None" is not available to choose. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility. The bike is with me at a jobsite in Kansas. If not shipped first, I and it will return to Maine at the beginning of September. It can ship from either place, or I'll negotiate delivery to points between. This bike is for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early based on local sale.On Aug-14-14 at 12:23:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Reserve Lowered! Next Bid Meets Reserve!
